OK, after volunteering to help out the region host the CAM Challenge east, I can't help but think that a properly set up S-dime would be awesome for this. Here's my thoughts:

94-up S-dime with the sportside bed

4.8/cam/LS6 intake

T-56/T-10/T-5/Something that works with a stick and 3 pedals

4wd Blazer rear diff with disc brakes, wider track, locker and likely some 3.73 gears.

17x11 wheels all around, 315/35/17's.

4th Camaro front disc conversion.

front control arms, coilovers, rear truck arm conversion with good spring rates/shocks.

Ballast in the rear to meet minimum weight and help weight distribution.

Basically, 3k lbs, 350whp, monster contact patch, effective brakes and can haul your competition wheels/tires/jack/cooler/junk to and from events with ease.

Am I insane? Am I more insane that I found a 98 with a blown engine for $300?

Why s-dime when its easier to type s10? My only beef haha. I do know a couple guys who set up some ls powered s10s for road race. They are both really happy with them

4.8l Silverado flywheel will let you use the 4.3l s10 manual transmission and later 2wd blazer front spindles with the sealed hub/bearing units are offset right for your 4wd rear axle and readily accept major brake upgrades.

Flex fuel 2.2l fuel pump should be fine for the 4.8l, and the ecm can be programmed to run it too.

Of course you should do it, does the truck have the same bolt pattern as a Corvette?

Blazer would be as heavy as a truck with a cage welded into it I bet, and not as stiff.

I like everything but the stepside and lack of 335/18 rivalS. I've thought the same thing. You should build the S10 version and someone else build the ranger version then fight to the death.

Yup do it! Boxy S10 reg. cab short bed or boxy S10 Blazer two door... OR if you can go full size... C10/C1500 reg. cab short bed or full size blazer... Do it now!

The new venture trans will hold stock-ish LS power for awhile, but I doubt for very long. Mine was getting a wee bit pissed with my 320ish whp on spray and sometimes misbehaved.

Coincidentally I was thinking about similar just earlier today too, but as so often happens, my thoughts fell down a dark slippery slope...That ended up with thoughts of hacking the roof/windshield off, then adding a tonneau over both the passenger side and bed, with a simple wind deflector around the front of, and fairing behind, the drivers head.

Last night as I was drifting off to sleep another odd thought came to mind.... Solstice 2.4 engine/trans, boosted to the moon. Likely more money than finding a 4.8 truck engine but wouldn't have the weight penalty of the cast iron block V8.
