I'm helping a family friend with a 1992 Saab convertible 5 speed turbo, the car currently pops out of reverse gear and must be held in position firmly in order to stay engaged, even then it's jumping out. The reverse gear fork flip has been performed to get to this point. I assume the transmission needs to be removed for an overhaul or replacement with a rebuilt unit.
I'm a BMW mechanic with all the tools/lifts but I have no Saab experience, at this point I'm either going to dive in to replace the transmission or find a Columbus OH area Saab specialty shop to perform the work.
Looking for all input including where to source a quality rebuilt transmission, other parts to replace along the way and any other advice.

http://www.erikssonindustries.com/ is a company that a couple of friends have used and have been happy with.
Or you could find a good used one. I only have one and don't really want to part with it, but I have a friend in Indy who probably has a couple that he'd be willing to part with. Let me know if you want that connection.
Depending on the miles and condition of other things, it may not be a bad time to do engine mounts, a timing chain and a crank pulley while it's out of the car. If the steering rack is at all questionable, now is also the time to do it.
My brother has used this place quite a lot and has nothing but good things to say about it:
The SAAB Shop
There is also this place:
Tommy Turbos
He used to work at MAG and I used him for a PPI once a couple of years ago.

It looks like Tommy passed away this year but his shop is still open.

He said they've already done that.
Thanks for the input guys, I called The Saab shop and they forwarded me to One Stop Saab for a transmission rebuild. Apparently the guy at the saab shop who built transmissions has since retired.
If you end up doing this let me know if you want some help.
I'm happy to report that the lady decided to sell the Saab leaving me with zero Saab experience. I have the feeling that ignorance is bliss in this case.
