If you have the money and want a REALLY unique Saab, here's your chance to own a real piece of Saab history. Perhaps you've always wished to own one of the "original" Sonnets? Maybe an early prototype sedan?

Liquidators are selling the Saab factory museum, car by car, or if someone with DEEP pockets steps forward...the WHOLE musuem (over 100 cars, if I read correctly).

Details are on http://bringatrailer.com

And no affiliation and other "stuff" with anyone connected to Saab or GM.

Sad, wish I had the $$$ to bid on any of them. Unfortunately, I'd be stretched to even get one shipped & imported. :(

Very sad. I love my 9-5 but I wish this whole mess would come to a conclusion one way or the other.

Very sad indeed. I would have enjoyed visiting that collection during my visit to Sweden next summer.

This looks a lot like the 1G DSM twins. Only better.

I really like the Ur-Saab. Maybe someday some eco-rodders will get together and offer a kit for it built using late-80's Honda bits for power? Like a retro CRX-HF.

If I translate properly from the Swedish, it is electric, based on the GM EV-1 platform.

I get the aviation reference. For me that is not much of an aeroplane but is absolutely high art on the automotive side. LOVE!

I know that Alfas are supposed to be the car that every true gearhead should own one of.. I think that a classic 900 or earlier Saab should also be a "must own"

I wonder if this will make my 87 turbo work more?

From Saab Central:

"EV-1 is based on the Saab 900 Turbo 16 and is a 2+2 sports coup which, although compact, has generous interior space. "The EV-1 can accommodate four adults and a vast amount of luggage," says Bjrn Envall, head of the Saab design centre. "The latter is unusual on this type of car."

Some of the features include futuristic styling of the body, with the top made of glass, in which are 66 solar cells. They power an electric fan, and the stronger the sunlight the faster the fan turns, so the interior is ventilated automatically whenever the car is parked in the open on a hot day. This means the air-conditioner will have less difficult temperature conditions to cope with when it is needed.

The turbocharged engine has been developed to produce 285 bhp., giving a top speed of 168 mph. There are high-power headlamps of a new type, with separate light sources for full, dipped and day beams, so that all can be used at the same time without problems of overheating. There are also upgraded instrumentation and information systems; for instance, the speedometer is fitted right in front of the driver and showing of a sensational experimental car: the unique light-conductor illumination means that only the speed range at which the car is travelling will be visible on the instrument.

There is collision protection in the doors that weighs less than half that of a conventional steel member. The doors incorporate composite reinforcing members of glass fibre, with a layer of carbon fibre, to provide side-collision protection.

All windows, with the exception of the glass roof above the front seats, are bronze-tinted and heat-reflecting. To quote Gunnar Larsson, technical director of the Saab car division: "We consider the Saab EV-1 project to be an important step in vitalising the traditional innovativeness at all levels of our organisation. So the effects will not be confined to the small team working on the project.""

I got to see that car at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 85, very cool.

I have a friend who runs a SAAB repair shop and used car dealer in upstate NY. He is in Trollhatten for a meeting. Wonder if he will pick up something.
