it's like the hot rod my dad just finished... a 1978 Ford Thunderbird. The car is as long as a contemporary Suburban, but has less room in than my 07 Cobalt. Figure that one out?

But, a search revealed there were no production cars with removeable roof panels. There were no factory convertible 1st gen CRX's either, yet they exist through the efforts of individuals.

Granted the "good" handling cars like the 2002's and capris managed to get just as tangled up and outa control.

I did notice that none of the 911's or 914's went over. They spun, but didn't flip. I wonde if the drivers were better, or if the cars were just more stable?

Probably a little lower, lower CG, better suspension. A combination of things. The less sporting cars had much less grip so were less likely to generate enough lateral G to be an issue, but me so much taller and softer that instability was an issue and far more likely to flip if they caught a curb or something when at max suspension compliance.
I particularly appreciated the BMW 3-way at 1:07...

Volksroddin', nothing against a properly prepared ACVW, but the ones in that video weren't prepped. I have seen an ITC prepared Beetle. It was underpowered but handled nicely. I suppose that the same car with a bigger motor might actually be fun. As for front drive, it can be fun with proper mods. I've had two ITB Golfs that were entertaining to drive. I rolled one over the curbing, so I know how the guys in the video feel!
I wonder what time elapsed to catch all those wrecks. I hope that was more than one day of carnage!

It's a Matra 530, the model that came after the Djet.

Still don't need a helmet on the ring. It's not a race track, it's a one way toll road with no speed limit, but traffic laws apply. A few years ago some German cops from another area caused a wreck and got a ticket from the local cops for passing on the wrong side of the road!
I looked at some of the related videos of the same area from the last ten years. It looks like there is more run-off room at that corner now. There is certainly better spectator protection. It also looks like newed vehicle may be less prone to roll-overs.

Nor the Mk I Capris, although there were only two of them. One of them went over the hill, though and got pretty banged up.
Just could not believe the complete disregard for all the safety measures we now take for granted. In lieu of nannyism, there has to be some common sense applied, no?

You just know that most of those people probably had a cigarette in their mouth as they sawed on the wheel trying not to flip.
I have not played X-box Forza 3 yet, but it would be sweet to have a few of the cars flip if you took a turn wrong.

That must be one helluva corner for a 914 to spin and blow a tire off a rim (3:59). Reckon the lawyers can sue for such an obviously unsafe condition?
At 6:55 I believe the ACVW driver's champagne bottle blows its cork. No celebration for him!
