It was lime green with HUGE, near-race rubber in the back and a beautiful rumble/whine from the exhaust and the blower. Yes I know they're heavy and the interiors are plastic but, darn, this thing was cool.

Saw two on my way into Daytona. They seemingly have clutches that are really hard to modulate, since they did burn-outs and chirped second from every light (though they only got to second once in that traffic). I like the power, but I still don't fit.

yeah, i'm sure it was a hard clutch that caused that and not a driver with an ear to ear grin..

No it isn't. The one in white on the cover of Automobile magazine, looks fantastic. Still needs a dash re-desin, though.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I think it is fantastically ugly especially from the rear. Plus I think the soon to be new Shelby GT500 kinda was a serious blow to the ZL1.
I gave him a taste of my '98 Grand Marquis' 4.6 liters of awesome but he didn't have anything for me (or didn't notice/care in reality.)
If someone threw me the keys to one I wouldn't turn my nose at it.

I think it's fantastically hideous from every angle. The attempt at retro styling ends up looking like some cheap Chinese copy.
It's heavier than the competition without anything to justify the weight. If it had a nicely appointed interior I'd concede the weight penalty, but it has a pretty average interior.
Also, you can't see out of it. Even as compared to other current production cars, the visibility is strikingly poor.
I like the power. Not the styling. I find the new Camaros pretty offensive styling-wise, enough so that I would not consider owning one.
I can't see myself wanting to hang about with the sort of folks that this car really appeals to. Good engines and maybe the seats could be useful swap material. The rest of the car isn't my cup of tea. 2 cents I'm sure everyone needed.
I must be getting really old. I am glad that there are still cars like this around and it's Ford/Chrysler counterparts but it's like going skeet shooting with a Bazooka. I would much prefer a Cruze/Sonic SS, Focus/Fiesta SVT or Dart SRT4. But what do I know? I spent the morning looking for early 60s Corvairs, Plymouth Valiants or Rambler wagons.

^^^ YES!

Let's wait and see how that actually plays out. Advertised hp means very little, particuarly considering Ford's history with advertised horsepower.
You're my boy, Pat.
I'm not saying that I'd shell out the cash for one or even that it's pretty, but 575 hp(?) of burly, American muscle on the street just made me smile and, given the chance, I'm sure you all would take an opportunity to try it out and not complain a bit about rearward view or cheesy interiors while hooning it.
Seeing one in NJ today means fast work by somebody: my local paper says that GM here in Oshawa celebrated the start of regular production of the ZL1 on February 1 with a ceremony attended by a bunch of guests including Rick Hendrick, "who purchased the first ZL1 available for public sale." (He also bought the first Camaro coupe and the first convertible. Man needs a hobby.)
EDIT: Rereading the article carefully, it just says the party was Wednesday, not the start of production. Never mind.
I would have loved to see the new Camaro a good bit smaller and lighter, yes. But its comfortable, capable, and damned fast. I don't think they're ugly. Pretty, no. But far from ugly. Really amazing how different they look in the different colors IMO. The bright green is gross. I don't care for them in black. But in silver, or white, or red I think they can look pretty good.
I know I wouldn't turn up my nose at one given the funding to buy it.
I saw one in milford Michigan. Near the proving grounds. It stands out from the rest. I wouldn't drop the coin for one. But cool car none the less.
When you get inside you feel like you are sitting in a tank with those itty bitty window slits all around. Very claustrophobic.
IMHO We should all be deliriously joyful that cars like this and the Shelby exist in 2012. The car is WICKED FAST in nearly every direction. See the Nurburgring video. It is farking badass even with the million pounds of government mandated safety gizmos and geegaws. Yeah its cramped and claustropohic and obese but its also silly fast. In ten years I probably still won't be able to afford one but a brother can wish.

+1
The ponycar war is on. This is a good thing.
It also doesn't hurt that the ZL1 sounds B/A in person.
In my mind the Camaro has always been the loser in the looks wars.. except for the first gen. So it's only fitting that the new one is so polarizing. If you can look at a 4th gen Camaro and swear on a stack of bibles that it's a good looking car, you either have a mullet or had one at some point. They're (relatively) cheap speed but not pretty.
