My trusty 21 year old Silverado finally blew a head gasket and bit the dust. I'm stripping parts off it, looking to horde any easy-to-store valuable bits.
Already sold the camper top and cats. 5.3L is rod knocking, I stripped the COPs off already. I've siphoned the gas out and pulled the tow hitch receiver...what else am I missing before I send it to the scrap yard?
I've been known to strip the fuses and relays.
How is your driver's seat? Many get worn down so good versions tend to be in high demand via CL/FB
Interior switch gear and plastic bits bring no value to scrap but might be easy to sell.

In reply to John Welsh :
Interior is actually in really good shape, not sure I want something that large clogging up the garage though

Better or worse than these only ones in Austin CL asking $350?
How's the tailgate? Something like that could bring an easy $200 or more which is more than scrap.
Head lights, tail lights, grille, mirrors are all popularly busted items that should sell quickly.

mine are in better shape. Good call on the tailgate. The pull handle plastic is broken, but the tailgate is easy enough to remove
Or, just list the whole truck being honest of the rod knock. Invite people to come hear it knock. My past experience with doing similar is that in less than 2 days someone will come pay you real money as well as take the entire truck away and out of your hair.
This is especially true if just a JY motor will make this a good truck again.
In reply to John Welsh :
I was going to say the exact same thing. How is the rust? If the rust is minimal that could get you 1K on CL and then someone will slap a $1,000 Jy motor in it and have a decent running truck that they flip for keep.

Plenty of rust and 210,000 miles.
In reply to dean1484 :
This '94 is asking $1,300 (and will get $1k)
It is older and will need an engine too.
Asking $2k and needs a trans. Dented fender and f-ed up bumper with rough interior.

Eh. I got $500+ for the cats and $250 for the camper, those both sold in one day. Not sure what to expect in scrap price for the rest of the truck, but I bet those three combined will push me over $1000. Everything else is just gravy
I like those 4 folding cargo tie-down loops in the back of the Burb. So if I were you I would take those off for use on something else.
Edit - never mind you have a pickup.
Problem is, they're sooo common, basic parts like fenders, airbags, door panels and such are too easy to find to make money on. How's the gauge cluster? I.E. does the mileage and PRNDL light up? Might be worth pulling for that as they're known to go bad.
Jack and handle would be good to pull just as a spare in your garage.

Things that come to mind:
PCM
Wiring harness for the engine
Transmission (But I'm inferring you don't want to go this deep/difficult)
Driveshaft(s)
Possibly the HVAC controls. (see if they're a common failure point)
If the grille is good, that might be about the only body part worth pulling (besides the tailgate, already mentioned)
If you list it as "parting out" on your classified social media of choice, you'll find out real quick what people want (and probably be a bit surprised at what they don't)
I've heard the OBS guys (GMT400) like to swap to the brake master cylinder on these to improve the pedal feel. And of course the 5.3 LS, you might be able to unload that even with the rod knock.
CL/FB it for 2x what scrap is and likely someone will grab it.
A few weeks ago when I last took in a load of scrap I think cars were around $180/ton. You probably have 2-2.5 tons there.
It's kind of hard to say what to pull, I dont know of anything real valuable. A good bed can bring solid money but a rusty beat up isn't worth hardly anything. You could just put up a parting out ad and let people contact you and ask for what they need. I've bought odds and ends that way. Sell what you can for a few weeks then scrap what's left.
And if/when you list it as "parting out" just know that about half of the responses will be "how much for the whole truck?"
So just have your "aw shucks, I guess I'd sell the whole thing. What would you give me for it?" script ready ;)
