Why do bad things happen to good people ??
There's a brief article on autoweek.com, but it doesn't have any more information than what's already been reported here. http://www.autoweek.com/article/20110210/CARNEWS/110219996
I did a google search of the Amarillo newspaper, and there wasn't a single word about it. I am hoping the person Toly was helping got a tag number or something.
I looked in the Amarillo paper as well. There were several other accidents reported but I didn't see anything about this one...you'd think it was serious enough to warrant a story.
How's that saying go? No good deed goes unpunished. I used to stop and help if I thought I could. I no longer do that for many different reasons. Even if they catch the perpetrator, there won't be proper justice. Good to hear Toly is doing as well as can be expected.
From Karen's Facebook...
Thoughts while worrying: would someone please volunteer to teach me to drive a stick shift? Toly tried and there was entirely too much yelling! Of his 18+ weird cars I'm going to have to be the chauffeur.

I don't facebook, If she needs help we'll make it happen.
I would be more than willing to teach, but I am sure I am not the most qualified instructor.
One would imagine Toly knows plenty of people who can drive with three pedals.

I would imagine that some of those cars a quirky / high strung enough that a stick shift might be the last thing to be worried about. It might be better for Mrs.Toly to have the use of an automatic for the short term. Most of us would quickly volunteer to serve as Chauffeur.
I just showed my dad this story.
He proceeded to inform me, Toly is the guy who built Hallett out here in OK. As some of you know, a great, great tight, technical fun family run facility.
Another wish to a speedy recovery.
I have an absolutely HUGE memory bank of great times at Hallett. I'll have to see if I can find the pics of me, at age 4, helping clean the track grime off my dads GT4 1967 Fairlady 1600 racecar.
Sad stories like this always make me thankful I am healthy and can get up everyday and go out into the world. All these years of driving little topless sports cars in a sea of SUVs where the bumpers are level with my head. It just takes one idiot like the one that hit Toly. Best wishes my friend you have a lot of people praying for you.

The secret life I spied David talking to Toly outside the rolex GRM tent and listened in awe at the stories that just rolled , He is a racing treasure . Get well Toly !
If anyone can make lemonade out of this lemon it would be Toly. Keep racing Toly, we're cheering for you!
