Well here is my first post, I was informed people here probably have the answers.

Im working on a car for Autocross and am already in the street modified class due to an engine swap. I just am hoping to be able to clear up some of the regulations as to what modifications I can do.

1) So my car uses the front sway bar to locate the front suspension in the wheel well instead of a convention tension rod. So with unrestricted front suspension components, I would like install this, https://technotoytuning.com/toyota/kp61/front-suspension-conversion-swaybar-kp60-kp61-starlet. However, I'm pretty sure I can't connect the subframe rails together like this kit does.

Section 16.1 G says subframe connectors are allowed per 15.2E which says "E. Longitudinal (fore-aft) subframe connectors (SFCs) are permitted with the following restrictions: 1. They must only connect previously unconnected boxed frame rails 94 — 2015 SCCA® National Solo® Rules 15. Street Prepared on unibody vehicles. 2. Each SFC must attach at no more than three points on the unibody (e.g., front, rear, and one point in between such as a seat mount brace or rocker box brace). 3. SFCs must be bolted or welded, but welding must be to the OE subframe stampings, not to the floor pan in between. 4. No cutting of OE subframes or floorpan stampings is permitted. Drilling is permitted for mounting bolts only. 5. No cross-car/lateral/triangulated connections directly between the driver’s side and passenger’s side SFCs are permitted. Connections to OE components such as tunnel braces or closure panels via bolts are allowed and count as the third point of attachment. No alteration to the OE components is permitted. 6. SFCs may not be used to attach other components (including but not limited to torque arm front mounts or driveshaft loops) and may serve no other purpose."

Am i correct to assume I cant make this modification using the system that connects the subframe together?

I'm sure I had some other questions, Just dont remember what they were at the moment.

Thanks.

I'm going to say no. That allowance is really only for fox body mustang subframe connectors - they literally have a discontinuous frame rail running from front to back.

Even if that were the case on your chassis, the system you're looking at here would be a lateral subframe connector, not longitudinal.

Hmmm... I thought almost anything was allowed in street mod. I'll have to look at the rules closer.

Edit: Yikes, $1125? Pretty sure there has to be a GRM solution (read: cheap) to accomplish the same purpose that fits within the rule set.

Edit #2: I had a very similar front suspension setup on my Mazda RX-2. So is your goal here to limit the fore/aft travel of the lower control arm, or is it to change the caster angle? If it is to change the caster angle, that can be done with a spacer block under the front sway bar mount. I had a set of those on my RX-2 ITA car - real old school.

The front chassis brace/mount is illegal for Street Modified class. You can look at another 2 or 3 pt chassis brace or engineer your own. The modified class will likely allow that chassis brace and engine swap, but they are mostly for open wheeled cars.

Ok i figured. the issue I'm having is my track width is too narrow, this is one method to allow for me to widen the track. I was planning on working on somthing of my own, just similar to the link provided.

I could make new LCA's, but it would be nice to also have a tension rod for caster adjustment. Im a ways away from working on the front suspension of the vehicle. Just trying to get a plan worked out for now.

I've been researching classes also since I am determined to get back into the Solo2 game next year.

I've seen my Lincoln classed in H Street ( V8 N.O.C.) and F Street with the Mustangs. From there it looks like it would feed into STX or STU, which is kind of irrelevant for now but kind of funny with the new Stangs and such filling those classes.

I won't trophy regardless of class but I'll have fun no matter what and I'll try to make liberal use of the update backdate rules.

Well, i guess with the rear end swap i have to be in prepared anyways. Ill read more into that, but i believe lateral subframe connectors are still not authorized.

keep in mind … in Street, you won't be doing any update/backdate

Ooh...I didn't know that. I had assumed I could install the optional stiff air springs and sport seats.

To do install stock equipment available on the car but not on your car that item needs to available for your model year and you need to install everything that came with that option package, not just the pieces you want, if it was not a standalone option.

So would the modification in the first post be acceptable in prepared class? The rules mentioned subframe connectors, but didn't really say what was acceptable.

In reply to The_Jed:

Run it in CAM.

Totally open rule set, but the class is new enough that no one (in my region at least) is totally abusing it yet. I just like the ability to be able to do whatever I want to my car without thinking "oh gee, is dingle x gonna bump me to a mod class" and having to reread the entire rule book.
