We've been going to Solo Nationals every year since the magazine has existed, and this year we're trying something new.
Grassroots Motorsports is proud to partner with SCCAForums.com on their annual 2011 Solo Nationals Sunoco Fuels Pick the Winner Contest. Click the link to vote for your favorite driver in each class; you can win all kinds of good stuff, including GRM subscriptions, free gasoline from Sunoco, Evolution Performance Driving School certificates, and bunch of other goodies.
You'll even find a couple of GRM staffers among the available choices. Per Schroeder will be competing for the 17th time, while staff new guy Alan Cesar will be making his Solo Nationals debut. (Per runs B Modified this year, and Alan will be borrowing the STR MX-5 project and a set of Hoosiers to compete in C Street Prepared.)
Our STR MX-5 project will see action in Street Touring R with Chris Harvey and John "Woody" Rogers behind the wheel.
Go vote, win stuff!
2011 Solo Nationals Sunoco Fuels Pick the Winner Contest
This is awesome! I really hope this is Per's year. He's got one hell of a car and can drive amongst the best of them.
Yes, Per is a great driver, but Clemens has a lot of seat time in that LeGrand. It should be an interesting race.
No pressure, Per!
Best of luck to all of you in the GRM community attending the big event. Give 'em hell!

Oh, I'd pick Clemens or Brianne before I picked me—it's a bet, not a popularity contest
Oh in that case, i'll throw down $50 on Clemens.
But Per, you really have such a nice smile.

You may also want to consider Tommy Saunders for that wager.
Brianne is the tire-warmer for Saunders, she has a nice smile, too:
Per, even standing next to his Ninja, doesn't make the grade unless his wife is doing the judging.
But we still luv ya, Per!

Brianne has been faster than Tommy all year.

Here's a tip. Don't vote for me.

Hey, Mike. FYI, we are having a STS dinner on 8/30, 7:30, at Lazlos. Swing by if you are in town!
I am trailing Denise Cashmore for votes in an open class, which is funny because I destroyed her times in AS when she was ASL. I guess name recognition means something.

Win EMod with a SBF-powered MGB and see what happens the following year(s); it means "something".

I'll make that my goal for next year ;)
I've done very well at every club I've run with so far, with wins even when my STS Miata had broken springs, timing set at 8 degrees BTDC, and injectors in such bad shape it was very noticeably down on power.
I'm not sure I'll win CSP, but I'll definitely not be DFL. I fully intend on giving the Nationals veterans a run for their money; I'm told the car is capable of a class win, so I'm gonna put all the foot I've got into it.

I think I said that it was capable of trophying at nats in CSP--and a car very similar to it trophied in 2009. That said, it's a blast to drive and you'll have a great time.

Wow. Talk about throwing down the gauntlet at Mr. Murphy! I like the cut of your jib, young man.
But a little research never hurt...
Who else is going to the Solo Nationals?
More importantly, who thinks they've got all the winners picked?

Per and Mjölnir for the win! Good luck in the Orange Hammer.
Tip -- I won the CDN nationals BSS class last year, and will be attending the US Nationals this year competing in SSM.
A better tip -- there were only two entries in the CDN Nationals BSS class last year
These:
Plus my Miata = SSM hilarity?

Don't forget the giant wing you will need, too.

Yep, 275s.
I'm trying to resist buying those... they're on ClubRoadster for $1000 right now. 15x10 Keizers with 275/35-15 A6s mounted.
I need them for the Escort. Trying to weigh buying those, or just buying the 15x10 6ULs over the winter.
The Keizers are pretty awesome, though.
And a giant wing wouldn't be a problem. I think i have a huge Ebay wing at the garage somewhere.

Oh, cheebus, if I was willing to sawzall my fenders, I'd be all over those. I already want rivet-on flares, but then my street tires would look dorky.

I'm already resigned to sawzalling my fenders... i can't even get 225s to clear stock bodywork lol.
The only question is... huge box flares, or obnoxious rivet flares?

On the Miata I'm in favor of obnoxious rivet flares. My daydream includes redoing my car from the ground up in the "Bermuda Blue"-like color that modern MINIs come in, with a black splitter, black flares, black hardtop (sometimes), and bronze 15x9 6ULs.
