I've been half-way looking for a truck capable of towing a car trailer, bike, odd and ends and so forth in the bed. I don't mind either if it is a fast truck. The Lightning strikes me as a sport truck that still has decent utility.

I ran across this FS ad over on ADV and I'm intrigued

My buddy had one for a while, and it handled his abuse pretty nicely. If there's one thing Ford knows how to make, it's trucks.

I sold Fords back then--they are very capable vehicles. Sound amazing with a good exhaust system.

I've had a couple of Gen 1's, and they were great trucks all around. I would also check into the Harley-Davidson edition (for a family cruiser) as well.

Check out NLOC.net and ask around.

Mmmmm the engine that gave birth to the Terminator Cobra. One of the most capable modern engines IMO, and can handle giant piles of boost. Swap a supercharger pulley, new headers, x pipe, and make 450 to the wheels. REALLY cool trucks. It took one with two extra cylinders to unseat it as the worlds fastest pickup.

Jeremy Clarkson wasn't terribly impressed with the Lightning.. but that might have been his anti American and anti truck bias showing..

well, it is what it is. I'm not looking for Elise type handling or 911 Turbo acceleration. I'm looking for something able to tug a trailer with a track-car or a couple motorcycles...and I don't mind if that thing happens to also be fast.

what mpg's do these get if driven reasonably? 15?

There was a guy over on CC that tracked his. It was great to see him put a heaping helping of whoopass on some very capable cars.

Unforchantly has has since passed away but with a little searching I am sure you could find the videos and posts about the truck.

So if the track car is not ready or the trailer is broken with the a lightning you have another option.

Yeah, he tried to use it as a grocery-getter (in the UK) and as an off-road vehicle. Nobody would like it for those applications.

I believe that they had a towing rating of 5000 lbs. That would be fine with an open trailer and most cars, as long as they weighed less the 3500 lbs. I've ridden is a few Lightings at Ford SVTOA on track events as an instructor and you can't help but get giddy or out and out laugh when the driver gets on the throttle and the truck just goes! Just seems that a truck should not be that fast.

I used to drive my modified 93R Cobra Mustang at these events and there was an instructor at many of these same events that had a modifed Lighting. In a straight line I couldn't catch him. Of course when it came to braking and turning if was another story, but still it was fast!
