I'm looking at an 05 ford escape, the unicorn of escapes for me, 4cyl, 5spd, AWD. I found one that appears to be in my budget and looks well maintained.
Escape drivers, whats your biggest gripe about the platform? are they reliable? slow? ugly? rust easy? don't get you many chicks?
Please GRM, inform me!
whoops, I found the same topic from a week ago. I'll read/bump that one. Carry on GRM.

Don't know where the other thread is at but we had a first year of production (2001) V6 Automatic Trans Ford Escape. Not quite what you are looking at. Drove it for a 165,000 miles with only replacing one ignition coil and the electrical switch that locks, unlocks and opens rear hatch door. Changed oil and filter every 4000 miles and one auto trans fluid change.
We sold it to a friend for their daughters first car and she drove it in high school and college for another 45,000 without any problems I am aware of. Friends sold it because they were concerned with daughter driving 500 mile round trips home from college with over 200,000 miles.
We live in the south so rust and deriving in snow was not a problem. Wife drove car 50 miles round trip daily pretty much equally devided between city and interstate. First generation was not exactly the sexiest vehicle but very functional when having to carry large objects and travel. Don't recall gas milage exactly but seems like low 20's
The other thread may have been mine. If so it was at first a comparison between the Escape and a Vue. It then became more of a "learn me Ford Escape" thread.
