Does anyone have a recommendation for a glass/windshield scratch removal product?  I am looking for a personal recommendation...some product you know absolutely works.  Assuming I get stuck repairing this.

Im in the process of buying a new to me car.  I was a bit worn out after more than 5 hours of test drives, lunch, and paperwork, so did not see a scratch in the windshield (It had been raining off and on that afternoon.  Typical Florida in the summer.).  Oddly(?) as the salesperson was doing a final cleanup he discovered a very thin, hairline scratch in the windshield.  It isn't deep enough to even snag a fingernail on, and while it looks as thin or even THINNER than a hair, it sweeps an arc just where you notice it under most light in a driver's line of sight.  An attempt, well, actually, 2 or 3 attempts were made to buff it out with window cleaners and/or buffing compounds, to no avail.  The salesman told me that since it does not meet their standards for a ...? that they will replace the windshield.   I was told on thursday at closing time someone would call friday or monday to make arrangements to have the windshield " fixed ".  I suspect that they will TRY to lose me in the shuffle, especially since the car is paid for.

A quick estimate on Safelite for a new windshield for this car got me a quote of about $500 + an undisclosed amount for fees.

I may just wind up returning/trying to return the car as I discovered some paint damage on the front of the car when I got home.  Someone had done a bit of paint touch up and when they removed the masking tape from the front bumper they also removed a strip of paint about 1 inch wide 3-4 inches long, just under the headlight.

Yeah, I really was tired.

Buy a car in the rain....better sell it in the rain.

I'm not aware of anything that works and even if it did it would distort the view through the repair.

they said they'd fix it - just follow through on that.

Yeah, every possible mistake that a buyer could make, I made it.  And I told myself that I would be more vigilant when buying something bigger than a candy bar.

is it legal  for a dealer to sell an unsafe car in your state ?

does your state have yearly inspections ?

at least they know it was cracked before you took it off the lot

good luck

This state (Florida) used to have vehicle inspections but did away with them some time ago.  So it can't be called a safety issue, per se.

The scratch is really quite slight, probably why I didn't see it until the salesperson pointed it out. (Think single strand of hair...perhaps even thinner.)  And it almost disappears when the sun is behind you.

Also found paint overspray on a headlight and a spot in the  paint where it had been pulled off with the removal of masking tape.  The CarFax showed a minor accident 4 years ago, the paint overspray couldn't be 4 years old ?

This a car that is just meant to be transportation/a replacement for a tiring Crown Victoria, but what little enthusiasm that I had for this car is quickly disappearing.
