Just had a bmw e28 sold out from under me tonight. Seller agreed on a price - needed to call him back to set up a deposit - Called - it was sold - someone showed up with cash. Happens - my offer probably got someone else more local off the stick. Over the years I've learned there's always another deal waiting out there - keeping eyes peeled and being ready to act will eventually pay off.

When I was selling my 1952 Dodge truck a guy came from 130 miles away, he was enroute. Another guy called from New Jersey and said "I'll take it! I'll pay your price, I just want it!" I explained that another guy was in process and I would be pissed if someone did that to me, I don't like doing business like that.

"Screw him". Listen, I'll call you if he doesn't take it.

Dudes, come on, I appreciate the sentiment but I'm not flagging this guy, I mean he beat me to the punch and while I was upset and needed to vent I'm not going to wish anyone ill-will. That being said I'm smiling at the post (I guess there really is such thing as Karma) I'm not condoning this kind of action, nor am I participating!

It does make me wonder if the fella who sold it to him is upset...

Best one I heard. I guy I know used to keep an eye out for cheap cars with minor problems, buy them, fix them drive them for a year and sell them for break even or profit. Once he went to see an Escort with some minor issues. Agreed a price and left a deposit saying he'd come back the next day. Later the guy selling (young kid 17-18) called to say he'd sold it to someone else. When they buyer complained, said they had a deal and had paid a deposit the kid got really angry and abusive and was being a jerk about repaying the deposit. Wrong guy to mess with. He'd have probably let it slide if the kid had been apologetic and got the deposit back ASAP, but he was such a jerk they guy took it to the next level. He took the kid to small claims court. Showed the judge the ad, I think he had a paper hand written receipt as well. He then took in a load of ad's for similar age/mileage cars and asked for compensation to the level of the difference between the agreed selling price and other adds, as well as the deposit back. He got the lot and the kids mom had to pay up :)

I agreed on a price for a car out of state. Agreed that I would come pick up the car the following weekend. Arranged a tow vehicle and reserved a tow dolly.

Contacted the guy to let him know everything was set and I'd see him on Saturday to get the car. He told me he sold it.

A month later he emails to ask if I'm still interested in the car that he needs to get it out of the yard. I told him he could keep it. I didn't want it.

Unfortunately the deals that I make that were "meant to be" don't always pan out either. I need more protection from the universe...
