I have a bunch of parts leftover from the two Astro vans I got rid of. Many are easily shippable. Think interior switches, headlights, and other odds and ends. I've had no luck on FB Mplace or any Astro/Safari forums or Craigslist. Should I try eeebay?  Is it more or less of a pain? I'm not looking to get rich but I do have parts that people could use.

Ebay is great for this kind of stuff. I have my parts packed up and ready to ship sitting on a shelf. I use ebay to buy postage and print labels. When something sells I just print the label, tape it to the part, and ship it off.

Headlight switches for example are 20-30 bucks brand new repops or used OEM *but* they are common to chevy trucks so you can get them from a u-pull for $10 if you want a used OEM one.

I would probably just pitch it all, I value empty shelves more than the $35 you are gonna make.

Ebay does the whole reporting to the IRS thing if you cross a certain threshold on sales. Not worth the added complexity to me.

I've had luck bundling lots of stuff and selling it to make it worth my time. You might be able to sell a pile of it for one money. Just be ready to sell it cheap. Make sure it's worth your time but something where separately they might fetch $300 you might get $100. But you get rid of it all!

And yes I have not found anything to replace eBay yet.

The nice thing about ebay is it is kinda fire and forget. I've listed stuff and 6 months later someone buys it, or if you want it gone, just auction it. FB marketplace you'll make more but you have to field a lot of tire kickers to close a deal. I tend to avoid ebay for high scam potential stuff or things that are just a pain to ship.

Definitely a consideration.

So I need to weigh everything ahead of time? And have it all mostly boxed up then?

Not a big deal. My wife ships for her store all the time so I have access to all that stuff.

How does auction work? Like lets say I want to bundle it all?

Get photos, quantities, and OEM part numbers of everything you are selling.  Note any imperfections so you have a wing and a prayer of not getting an "Item Not As Described" and having to eat the return.

Write a description with that information.

Put it all into box(es), weight and dims for Ebay calculated shipping.

List it on Ebay at the minimum you will take for all these treasures.

  • Price it where its worth it to you and you will get no bidders and will have spent all that time for nothing
  • Price it where its worth it to someone else and you will end up losing money if you value your time in any way

Once the auction closes, pay Ebay their 15% and UPS their shipping charges.

Take the $3 you made and buy yourself half an ice cream cone at Dairy Queen.

Seriously - dumpster time.
