188hp car the size of a Civic is a Nismo? Don't they have like a more base trim label they could use? lol.
When I think of Nismo I think of cars like this:
Something that is competitive.
This is going to be blown away by a CURRENT Civic SI let alone the upcoming generation or the Type R. I don't imagine this car being cheap either. It probably will be priced around a GTI or Civic SI.
Bizarre choice by Nissan. Reminds me of 90s Chevy use of the SS badge.
I'm confused by most of Nissan's choices.
It seems like whenever they build a "performance" car it is always priced well above its competitors. The 370z Nismo is a perfect example. Great car compared to $30k performance cars, but priced in line with the BMW M2.

I think part of the problem with the Z is that it is in desperate need of replacement and has been needing one for a few years now. It should never have stayed on the lineup long enough to even compete with the M2 lol.
Not even the M2, I would even rather pick a m235i lol.
This car makes no sense except from a historic perspective. But they've fallen so behind the times, I just don't get the appeal of anything Nissan anymore.
You are 100% correct! This is straight out of the "Old GM" playbook: create excitement with brand heritage, slap a historic name with performance pedigree on something, do just about zero to the car besides a sticker and tape treatment, and charge an absurd amount for the resulting vehicle!
A short list of cars that go for around the same money in that class that will blow the doors off of this thing:
-Ford Focus ST
-Ford Fiesta ST
-VW GTI
-VW GLI
-Subaru WRX
Seriously, outside of the subprime auto loan market, who is this thing aimed towards?
Unimpressed at the pricepoint. The car in this segment that I am at least a little excited about is the $21K 201hp/'195 lb-ft 2017 Hyundai Elantra Sport. Motor/suspension/brakes/interior...a true "package".

Ya one of the N cars they were testing was the hatch version of that too. Makes me more interested if this is what they offer as a more "regular" car.
Completely outclassed at that price point.

This is extra funny because I am watching Return of the Jedi right now.
Needs more HP and cubes. Everyone is flaming Nissan on this.

What's funny is the Civic SI was announced to have a 1.5l engine.
The thing is the Civic SI will not have under 200hp, lmao.

wow, never would have guessed. I used to be a Nissan fanboi of sorts, but the Elantra Sport seems far more appealing than this Sentra.....
Man, that thing is SO close. If they just put a little more effort into the rear end, they could have made the ugliest car ever.

Wow, that looks like it could be a lot of fun, and I think they're really doing good work with styling inside and out these days. Certainly more exciting than Nissan's 'sporty' offering.
Way to go Nissan! You'll soon be able to get a Kia Soul with more power (201 from the 1.6T) then the Nismo Sentra offers. This is how you become relagated to selling fleet vehicles.

Nissan: the new old hyundai...
As a current SE-R Spec-V owner, this makes me sad.

That Elantra looks like a pretty thorough effort.
I remember years back someone started a thread asking for a new SE-R and I said the Sentra was so inherently ugly in the current body style that it was pointless to hope since noone would like it anyway. That seems to be holding true.
The Juke engine was impressive when it came out, but this is too little too late.
Nissan has cycled up and down through times of relevance for a very long time. 510, 240Z times of the early 70's were fabulous. They faded into the low times of the Stanza and whatever other boremobiles they produced in the 80's, followed by cool B13 Sentra, 240sx, and Maxima in the 90's, ending with the Spec V in the 00's. In the last 10 years, other than Godzilla, nothing exciting. Hopefully this thing is the low point, and somebody with some vision starts leading product development.
While we are slagging Nissan, I'd also love to know why the 2003-2004 Spec V Brembo brake option was bundled with stereo and comfort features that had absolutely nothing to do with the idea of fabulous brakes. Well, I suppose you needed better brakes to stop the extra weight of the dumb options.
That Elantra Sport is really impressive, and I don't even like Hyundais! They actually made a decent, real sport package with lots of premium content, and kept costs cheap. The question for me is if it's built better than my wife's old 2007 Elantra. That thing was awful, and gave us nothing but trouble.
Yeah, Hyundai and Kia are really giving the business to the rest of the market. My cruze could be confused with a sports compact with about $800 worth of tuning, in low light, if you squint, while looking at it from the east, at a 3/4 view. Other than that, GM really doesnt have much to offer in that segment. Turbo ATS or Regal GS are clearly going to compete in performance, but blow the budget out of the water.
Dodge has the Dart, which, while utterly horrific from a maintenance standpoint, is somewhat sporty...I guess
Ferd has the usual suspects, keeping Detroits end up
Toyota/Subie has the frisbee, but youre not going to compete in the FWD, upgraded ecobox crowd with that. Genesis Coupe is in the same boat - Great platform, but not a lot of people cross-shopping the Nismo Sentra with a Genesis or a frisbee.
Civic options are ok, but Lord are theyre getting big
I guess, I would have to say (and I cant believe Im going to put this in print), Elantra offers one of the best spo-com options off the lot these days...especially for the money. WRX is in the conversation, but thats a bunch more money, and Im not particularly thrilled with its styling.
Is Nissan still using CVTs? Because that says performance to me.
They should have called it the Z24 if it drives anything like Sentra I rented last year. Chevy couldn't have built a better copy of my old Cavalier.

What makes them so bad from a maintenance standpoint? Never did like em..
