Well, loads of people here who like odd cars. But even here, I'm not sure - I may be the only one. An Escort of the same era is inexplicably lighter. But it's just so cool.
Zetec or Duratec swap? Tempo AWD drive-train?

I just love them.
My cousin had a black one when I was 15. I like em' ok but they wouldn't be very high on my list.
Well it certainly isn't me.
Duratec. I love the Zetec, but the Duratec has so much...
Here:
It has that.
And yes, it would be a fun project. Sure, toss an awd drivetrain in there.
its just you. Coming from a guy thats actively searching for Chevettes and would love a Yugo, thats really saying something.
The lack of love for the EXP, even here, is kinda making me want one that much more!
You are not alone.........
$1000 for a shortened Escort that never even had a rear seat that needs engine work and a cv axle?
really?
have we gotten that far away from sanity? i mean, yeah, those cars are kinda cool for what they are, but $1000 is on the high end of what it would be worth in driving condition.
but i do gotta admit that the bug deflector is pretty sweet and anything looks better in faded pea green paint.
In reply to novaderrik:
Oh, no doubt. Sorry, I meant to say that when I posted it. Dude is high. If it didn't need the axle and the engine ran right it would be worth $500. I'd be doing him a favor if I called and offered to haul it away for him.
I see a guy quite regularly here with a yellow one- I'm pretty sure his is the Mercury LN7, though.
I think with a modern engine swap and some Focus bits scattered through the suspension, it could be a nice driver.
Call the vet, we have sick puppies.

I want one of these when an omni would serve me better:
So no, it isn't just you.
$1000?
Are you berkeleying insane?
I mean - sure it is the celebrated and much loved Ford Escort XP which is better than Windows XP in every way except WinXP was $79 new and EXPs were only $79 after 3 months of depreciation. I'd start the bargaining below scrap value because you have to move it.
I think someone is smoking crack at $1K. Maybe $200, yes I kind of like it so go buy it
Yes, I think you are the only one...
You could name it Kermit, though...
I don't like that whole era of Escorts due to the screwy suspension geometry.

This. I like the way they look, and it stops there. Utterly terrible to drive.

...I like it. Put me in the Zetec-swap catagory. Of course I would have a serious look at making a rwd zetec swap, probably with a XR4ti rear end in it to keep the 4x108 wheels.
Don't you have a Capri to be polishing / improving?
I think they loook alright, up til I see those tail lights.
Price is crazy, but I like the weird, over the top '80s styling.

I like the Rampage simply because of these two pictures. They're so hilariously wrong and they make me giggle.
I saw a car on the road the other day that I thought was a Ford EXP from the front, and thought, wow, you don't see those driving around every day! But when it passed me the back end said "Horizon" on it. Huh? I thought the only Horizon was the Plymouth Horizon which had more conventional headlights. Any idea what it was?

Around 1983 or so the Dodge Omni 024 was rebadged as a Horizon and looked a little EXPish. It was a hacthback version of the red Dodge UTE above.
