any one have a source for what the timing should be for a 351w out of a 74 ford galaxie? Have it approximately set, but would like to know the specs so that I can get it running better. Tried to get it to knock and then back off, but I had it running from 0 to 45atdc Currently have it set around 15*atdc and it runs well, but stil has a slight miss at 2k rpm.
Thanks for your help.
In reply to Opus: No engine should have the timing set "after top dead center".

try 10 degrees BEFORE top dead center with the vacuum advance hooked up to full manifold vacuum. then either go with more or less timing than that, depending on what the engine wants.
if it's reading anything AFTER top dead center when it runs best, then i'm pretty sure the outer ring on the balancer has slipped and it's time for a new balancer.

I had the issue of the timing marks being off on a 283 in a 57 Chevy I had. The grassroots solution: at idle loosen the distributor hold dowm and rotate the distributor clockwise until it runs rough, then counterclockwise until it runs rough again, set the distributor in the middle. The proper way would be to pull #1 plug and determine tdc then mark your pulley appropriately.

Thanks, I will look into a new balancer. I do have a timing light with an advance setting on the back. It is possible that I am reading it wrong, but will also try to talk to my friend (ase certified mechanic) in the next couple days. He is busy and I do not want to take his time that he could be making money.
