I never thought they weren't :). I think you fantastically described it and the car stuff is just a small part of what makes it such a good movie.
I remember reading that you had some fx experience and consider your compliments with high regard :)
Going to see this tonight with SWMBO. Pretty pumped.
This'll be the second movie I've gone to see in theaters in about 4 years. Last one was the Martian.
Go see this. You cheat yourself of a great time if you don't. I expected a "lame movie" but "cool car stuff".
It is a great movie, very well done, and as was said earlier, the cars stuff is cool, but the movie stands on it's own.
My wife enjoyed it, and she generally doesn't like the movies I do!

JfryJfry, Awesome work sir. My daughter, Alaina, and I truly enjoyed the driving as we did the entire movie. Absolutely LOVE to see real vehicle dynamics at speed done with precision and skill.

Agreed. I have a couple acquaintances that carve the ducks. Not only that but they paint pictures of the decoys and have had US stamps made of them!
Several still on display at our public library. Awesome works of art!
Excellent movie, just caught it this morning. Will probably see it in the theaters again, as my wife is interested.
I want to go see it again, but going to catch the matinee without Janel has proven to be politically unwise. This has caused the need for delicate negotiations.

I'd like to hear more about the highway scene with the Avalanche. How fast were the vehicles going when the Avalanche was wedged under the trailer? Glad to see so much real driving instead of a bunch of CGI stuff. From what I could see, no destroyed classic cars other than the light damage to the K5. Well done!
Oddly, one of my favorite things was the tight 360 in the Caprice. Welded diff?
Hadn't even heard of it until I saw this thread. Now I am waiting in a theater for the first time in years - I hope it lives up to all your reviews

I read this review of the show whilst listening to live music at our favorite weekend food/music hangout.
In a similar way that building a well-received custom car would feel good, I am so glad that so many of you guys have enjoyed it!

The avalanche under the semi was at about 45. The rig could go faster but we didn't have a long run and we could get a few takes in at that speed.
And the caprice, as far as I recall, had a posi. Funny about that car.... late in the game the picture car coordinator asked what that car should be to do the gag and fit the character. We suggested cars like the caprice - big, American, 80's-90's, rwd.....
I found the perfect car - a sleeper 86 ish pea green caprice with wire wheels, a 383 and a posi. The powers that be didn't make a decision for a week or so and finally said yes but the car was already gone. So they bought that one and painted it purple.
It would do the power 180 but needed a little more room than we had so we tied a rope to the back bumper, had ansel light the tires up, and two guys pulled the car around about half way and ansel finished the slide.
He did great and it looks pretty cool.
Took the family to see it last night (side note: over $10 per person....berkeleying OUCH) and the theater was nearly full. So high hopes that it's a commercial success.
We all enjoyed it tremendously, from the 12 year old daughter up to Tiger Mom and myself. I took the Suburban and was trying to drive very sedately on the way home after but said to TM "man, after a movie like that I really want to get this thing sideways for every turn!" Apparently I hadn't been as sedate as I'd thought because she responded "yeah, we can tell." Oops.
The movie was excellent. Layers, depth, excitement, humor, all there. More Hellcat scenes and fewer Corolla/Mitsubishi E36 M3box scenes would have been kinda nice, but that just the motorhead in me.
Well done!

I rarely see movies in theaters, because I'm a tightwad. But I went and saw this. Excellent movie, though I really didn't understand Kevin Spacey's character's motives at the end.
Jeremy, you've said a few things about S550 Mustangs in the movie, but I don't remember seeing a single one?
Awesome job, by the way, especially in the WRX and Avalanche!

Whoops, I should have been more clear - Mercedes s550. Embarrassingly, I'm not familiar with all of the newer mustang chassis codes. I had an sn95 I got to learn how to drift with (out of the rwd manual cars avail, it's one of the worst cars to do it with. Plus mine was a 96 - the lowest powered gt maybe ever) but lost track of all of the nomenclature.
You guys would love to check out the biscuit rig and the pod cars that we use. Really trick equipment used to create illusions.
