What say ye?

It shifted OK, but definitely acted like it was hard to shift 1-2, but it had a worn shifter and probably worn synchros, so that doesn't sound right, plus, I am pretty sure this is the 3-4 fork.

Foolish not to do them while it's apart. Those look toasted to me, but I'm not an expert.

Show it to a transmission specialist and see if they say it's out of spec.

This was my thought.

Again, they don't rattle in the grooves, the 3-4 shifts were great, and I don't want to spend the $60 if possible.

There MUST be a specification somewhere... a minimum thickness? or a maximum differential between the wear areas? SOMETHING other than "they don't rattle in the grooves"

The witness marks on the forks outside of their two contact pads tells me they should be replaced.

Imo you are thinking too cheap for working on a car project right now lol, its less than 2 tanks of fuel to replace them now, and a huge hassle and more time and money to take it apart and do it again later when you realize you should have done it in the first place.

I dunno, I'm still not totally sold. If they don't rattle around, the only issue is their surface finish right? I can replicate that with a good hone. If they are steel, can I not weld material back on and repair them? Just seems a bit odd to replace a part with no symptoms at all.

Maybe if I trust that they are the same as an A833, I can find a thickness spec.

ok, I grabbed it and washed it off, and now I think I agree. I also found the casting number and saw that new process gear apparently used the exact same part in a transfer case, so replacements are more like $30 shipped, which is a lot more understandable than $60 by searching MY6 specifically.
