How is the shifter supposed to feel in a Miata compared to a Civic?
Guess it would depend on what generation Civic and Miata you're referring to.
I don't have a ton of experience with Civics, just a little. I've had a couple of NA Miatas and currently have an NC. To me, the Miata's shifter has much more of "firm" feel to it. Hard to describe in words. Every time I shift it, I get a firm, crisp feeling as it goes into gear. Throws are really short, and the effort level feels great....not too little, not too much...just a decent push.
My wife has a Honda Fit, which I know isn't a Civic. But the shifter in that car is buttery smooth and a joy to drive. The throws are a bit longer and require just a touch less "force", but I admit it's nearly as much fun to shift as the NC.
Also how does the NA shifter compare to the NB? Are they about the same? I ask this because I know a guy with a NB but no one with a NA.
I always thought that the description of the Miata shifter feeling like a bolt-action rifle was pretty good...
I'll second the bolt action rifle... It's second only behind the tie of ITR and S2000 for feel and throw.
Damn, I wish I had bought another Miata instead of a Civic :-/
On a scale of 1 to 10; which is the closest for each vehicle?
