Soooo... recommend a few car shipping companies for me. Looks like my son wants to ship his Jetta east while he is deployed. Car is in San Diego, home is Peoples Republic of Maryland. Or maybe I should just do adventure and fly out and drive back... By myself... Hmmm.
I probably say this a lot and have only used them twice, but I would suggest seeing what Uship can price you. It is door to door shipping.
Personally I vote the fly out-- drive back. Our country is so vast and amazing that I jump at the chance whenever a cross-country road trip is a possibility. There's no shortage of cool stuff to see between CA and MD!
If not----- Reliable Carriers will get his car to you safely, and with total professionalism. We've used them several times, and they are totally top-notch.

Another definite vote for UShip. It's Ebay style where you can read reviews on the shipping company and get bids. I've used them several times with great success.

Lamb is good. Here they are delivering my RCR Superlite last spring. You can also contract them through Stewart and pay 10 or 20 percent more.

I had my Mini shipped from CA to PA last Spring. Cost was around $900 on an open carrier. All of the enclosed carriers were twice as much or more. Decided I wasn't spending and additional 20% of the purchase to ship the car. I toyed with the idea of driving the car, but it will cost more between hotels and gas, even if you do get a cheap flight. The inspection shop in CA talked me out of it.
I used a shipping broker based in FL. He was reasonable to deal with. If you want, I can try to dig up the contact info when I get to work tomorrow (and email is easier to dig through).

I'm with this guy, even if you aren't getting to stop and check out everything along the way, there is something satisfying about driving a vehicle many hundreds or even a few thousand miles home.
