Though I got a new (to me) Porsche 944, we decided to keep the '93 GMC Sonoma as a beater/truck for my 16 year old.
I am replacing the front shocks. I have new ones, and they come with a new "cap"a nd anut that goes on top. however, the bolts that hold the shock to the bottom part of the A-Arm are really, really rusted and will need to be cut off.
Autozone does not have a "mounting kit". does anyone know what size and bolt type I should use?
thanks,
Eric M.
I don't have a GMC repair manual but do have a link to an online manual. If it is correct (not a generic picture up there), the 2WD V6 has a small bar going through the hoop at the bottom of the shock. The bar is mooshed flat at each end and has a slot for a bolt to go through.
Look at the bottom of the lower control arm; if you see the bottom of the shock and two bolt heads, then that's what you have.
Some of these bars should have been provided with the new shocks, if not I have some you can have.
Verify what you need.

I have the bar, and the shocks have the bar that matches. It is the bolts themselves that are not going to be able to be re-used. I just need to get the correct size and Strenght of bolt.
thanks!
