That's an interesting idea. The cam and dizzy rotor rotate 360 degree in synchronization, correct? You could replace the four magnetic posts representing the four cylinders with a single one that shows the MS3 complete cam rotation has occurred...am I right on this?
Yarp, that's the way my MS3 4A-GE is set up; crank wheel plus modified distributor with one post serving as a cam sensor.
It should be mentioned that the mods also included adding an aftermarket sensor to the stock distributor housing. After a few frustrating attempts to reverse engineer OE sensors to get it to play nice with the Megasquirt, I like the new sensor with a full spec sheet, plus the relative ease of getting replacements down the road if needed.
In theory it may have to crank a little longer to sync before firing up, but in practice I haven't noticed a big difference.
