Should I use this Mobile1 0W-40 in my '96 BMW?

I found a 5quart jug of unopened Mobile1 "European Car Formula" 0W-40 oil in the garage. Don't remember buying it and I have no other use for it but coincidentally the 318ti (m44, 185k miles) is due for an oil change.

Any reason I shouldn't use it?

Should work well, you should be able to get at least 6000miles/1yr out of it.

goes in everything gas powered.

I run M1 0w-40 in my 330i, no problem.

OIL THREAD!!!

I use Mobil 1 5w40 in my 2002 325ci. So you would only be down by 5 If your BMW calls for 5w40 and you have 0w40, that just means that the 0w will flow more freely at cooler temps. Ie: before the engine gets up to operating temp. Should be just fine.

"Is there something unique about this 'Euro Formula' that would be less than ideal for my high mileage 20 year old car?"

It's just a really nice full syn oil that happens to meet a ton of current euro car specs.
