I'm in the market for a decent 4wd truck for a few grand. Here is an ad for a Toyota. It says it has the typical rusty frame. My brother-in-law has welding experience and know's alot about trucks. Do you think it can be fixed or should I move on?

Thought that was only the Tundra...

Anywho, I'd move along, If I were you I'd look somewhere south of the rust belt, say Georgia and get a basically rust free truck in much better shape for the money, yes you'll have to drive, but you won't be welding frame rails together either...

Does your brother in law like you? He probably won't after you make him fix a rusty piece of E36 M3.

It is for a tacoma. This truck is not a tacoma.

I've done this repair on a 1986 after the frame split on me. It's not a terrible job, It's actually fairly easy.

To do it right you need to drop the gas tank and remove the bed. hell, If the bed is bad, It's time for it to go anyway.

Build one of these.

btw.. I sold my rusted and repaired 1986 for $700. $1600 is berkeleying insane for that truck. $500 is more like it.

Not just the frame, I have a 1994 4-Runner. I've replaced miles of fuel lines and brake lines.

For $1600 you can find something more reliable.

Spend a little more and buy a southern truck. You can get a winner in your price range.

As a Yankee now living in the south, I still remember when I thought all old vehicles are rusty, and that it is normal. It's not. Southern trucks don't rust (except for farm vehicles exposed to ag chemicals)

Rust is the devil. Find a solid truck, IMO.

I'll keep looking. Ohio stinks. Everything I like are almost non-existent around here due to rust. Anything rust free demands top dollar. Thanks for slapping me out of doing something stupid.
