Show us something that you broke today!

It doesn't have to be anything big, dramatic, or expensive... just something annoying that will complicate your life for the next few days (or more!).

No need to limit yourself to just car related stuff. Feel free to include bones and household projects as well.

Go!

I'll start...

I need to change an A/C coolant hard line, and I snapped the one bolt that passes through the firewall and holds it in place. It's directly behind the engine, just below the rear valve cover. It passes through an aluminum block and goes into... I'm not exactly sure what. The bolt started life at 38mm long, and now it's been demoted to 28. The remnant is stuck inside the block and none of it can be removed. Access is poor, and if I can't replace this line, it will be exponentially more difficult to get this car sold.

I was changing to new tires and figured a new tube while I'm in there on my bicycle. Conti tube so should be pretty nice. Well at an indicated 45psi the tube suddenly exploded. My ears are still ringing. Super good for my tinnitus. Mawp.

Careful as you try another tube with that tire, once the bead pops off like that (big bang) it often will not seat right which leads to more bangs. Make sure the tube isn't pinched between the tire and rim as well as that can lead to these issues too.

Hmmm. Good point. The bead seems fine now with a new tube, but I did notice the tire wasn't quite the same as before big bada boom.

Today? Nothing yet.

Last couple months? A bike seatpost and seat clamp, almost everything in front of the timing cover on my car plus an airbag...

Not sure it's fair to say I broke it, but the threads stripped off this new tie rod end with very little force

I'd rather not, it was expensive and precious. Ask Wspohn , he knows, and I didn't ask for secrecyblush

Where was this when I needed it?! I wish I took photos of me dropping nearly every plate we had at once a few months ago. D'oh!

Either way, I'm thankful this exists. It's good to remind ourselves that we're human ... and so are others. :-)

^That feels expensive.  Ouch.

I'm reserving this post for Saturday, when I'm tackling plugs, oil change, and alternator coolant lines on the Panamera this weekend...  Pray for me.

I, myself, am perpetually broken day-in and day-out, physically, emotionally, you name it.

It's been a while coming, so at least there's that.

Tire and tube right at $400-- two of each will show up today.  And since it the first time doing this on this airplane, another $300 for a gear leg jack adapter and safety stand.

Fingers crossed that I don't come up with more fodder for this thread while fixing this.  Looking at what I expect are the original 45 year old wheels, I expect I may need to be replacing those in the near future.  Gives me a reason to stop by the Cleveland booth while at Oshkosh.

Did you have to upgrade the wheels?

Yeah, replaced them with 22s with spinning centers. Since I can't retract them anymore, the spinners sound like sirens over 100 kts.

😀

Wheels are fine as is. Spending serious money next spring though to replace the 230 horse carbureted motor with a 260 horse fuel injected unit with (gasp!) electronic ignition!

Need a tap extractor?  I have a few, if I have one in your size, it's yours.

This is a great idea for a thread, however, I haven't broken anything recently...give me a minute.

My buddy is restoring a 1960 Oliver tractor and the end of the steering shaft was rusted and unusable.  This is the steering shaft for something else (Jeep?) that has the same splines and diameter, but a different length (so not a direct replacement.)  I'm supposed to cut and weld the splined end to the original shaft.

The steering wheel was stuck on the splines on this one also. I had to cut the whole column and shaft in two on the band saw.  Then I tried gear pullers.. then I welded up a collar to pull on, and broke that.. then tried the hydraulic press until I noticed I was starting to mushroom the threaded end of the shaft..

Berkeley this.  Steering wheel finally yielded to the die grinder and a cutoff wheel.

Now I need an oddball 13/16-20 die so I can try to clean up the threads before I weld the shaft pieces together.

Went to top the air off in my 08 Odyssey tire, and the end of the valve stem broke off and no longer holds air. Gonna pick it up from the tire shop on Monday with a new TPMS sensor. Only cost me $65...

Ouch!  How did that happen? Did you drop it or was it a flaw in the casting?
