My first car was a 1994 V6 Cavalier. Got it as a hand-me-down from my parents in 02 with something like 30,000 miles on it. It wasn't half bad after putting on some 7" wide wheels and 205 Kumho Ecsta MX's under it. The girl I sold it to totalled it in less than a month. Most Cavaliers of this vintage have long since been scrapped.

Edit: The first car I bought with my own money was a 2004 Dodge Neon SRT4. It's a miracle I didn't kill myself in this thing.

I had one of these (for about an hour). Owner said if I could get it started in half an hour. I could have it. I went back home and took my dads lawn mower gas can and I took the battery out of his Mercury. Grabbed my tool box and carried it all back on my bike. Had it running in 15 minute and drove it home. Owner was s bit annoyed. I was all of 12 years old. After some haggling with my dad I had to give the car back in return I was given $20. Years later I was offered the same car and I told him he would have to pay me to take it.

1976 Toyota Corona station wagon (the manual called it an "estate")

Exactly like this but no roof racks and a dark burgundy colour.

One of the best cars I've ever owned, I still miss it.

I would guess this photo was taken in 86. That is my white Fiat Abarth 750 and Isetta you can barely see. The 78 Audi Fox was the first car I really drove. Whilst the Fiat was "being built" I had this

 photo Picture009_zpsaf2ac07e.jpg

Until my sister blew the motor in her 63 bug so my fresh twin carbed 1835 was pulled since she "needed her car more than I needed mine"

I ended up trading the engineless bus for a 78 Rabbit Diesel because I was given a ride in a hotted up rabbit and was blown away that a VW could move like that. Of course the diesel provided zero thrills.

This was nearly like mine, except mine was 4wd and was on chrome American Racing wheels.

It was absolutely terrible, and I still keep an eye out for another one.

Bought it off of my dad in 2002. He had picked it up in 1995 after going about 15years without a fun car.

Still have it, for now.

Mine looked like this minus the stripes. The car was rebuilt from two GLCs by a guy who worked with my dad. There was a rust hole in the floor where the rear of the driver's seat was supposed to attach to the floor. The master cylinder was shot, so the car barely had any brakes, and in a panic stop almost all of the braking force was applied to one of the front wheels. I didn't die driving it, but there were times when I came close.

First car was a 75 Camaro RS/LT I bought in 1987 for $2200 right before my 16th birthday, money saved from newspaper delivery-mowing grass-shoveling WI snow for neighbors off sidewalks and driveways. Originally two tone RS brown, the prior owner painted it bright Corvette Yellow. 350 4BBL was rebuilt, prior owner removed the cat with a larger headpipe. 4 speed with a Hurst Shifter, 4.56 posi rear. The first picture is how I bought it (fresh WI April snow) with the too large wheel/tire combo. Airshocks and traction bars, Clarion tape deck, louvers. Second picture is with Cragar S/S wheels with smaller tires on the front and the tires that were on the front swapped to the back shortly after I bought the car. I drove the car until a few months out of high school. After a transmission and several clutches, it was time to sell it. 16-17 years old I beat the daylights out of the car. The 4speed/4.56 combo made the car seem a lot faster than it really ever was. I sold it and bought a "winter beater" 69 Impala 327 2-dr my brother and I shared together for about 5 years, which I later hot-rodded and bondo'd up the rust

The 75 Camaro is similar to the "Transformers" movie beater Camaro

Last time I saw my old 75, it looked a lot beat up like the movie car (last time I saw it was about 15 years ago)

My first modes of transportation were:

  • 1985 Honda ATC110
  • 1971 Hodaka Ace 100
  • 1976 Yamaha DT 125
  • 1985 Honda ATC 200
  • 198x Honda Odyssey FL 250

I didn't get my license until I was 18 years old (because I had plenty of toys to get me 'round town) each bike was sold to get the next with the exception of the last three.

First car given to me:

1986 Cadillac Cimarron

Wrecked the Cimarron twice in two months.

FIrst car I bought: 1981 Ford Courier (not mine, but close). Bought it for $250:

Would barely haul my 3-wheeler up to the mountains, but for that price I really didn't car. Rolled it down a logging road a few months later.

In reply to Nick_Comstock:

It looked much more badass than it drove, as it was mostly broke from my abuse. The 350 was almost stock, and those mid 70 Camaro's are heavy. It did great burnouts.

Funny story, my late father went to look at the car with me. Although it was my own cash, I needed parental approval. My mother had no idea what I bought. My dad told her "it's a sturdy car". When it pulled up at home, my mother through a fit -"I can't believe you let him buy that bright yellow jacked up car". He laughed.

My brother, who was almost 13 years older than me, his second car he bought when he was 17 was a 68 Caprice 2dr 396 - Triple Black ex FBI car. What I didn't know was, he first took my dad to look at the car, and my dad said no. The next weekend, my dad went out of town, so my brother took my mom to look at the car (his own money also), and she said "OK". So my dad came home that sunday night to find the same black Caprice he said he could not have.

Guess the approval was pay back.

Mine was probably heavier but motivated by an all stock 301. Not the pinnacle of performance there either. But it was enough to be sideways almost all the time and for a 16 year old kid that was cool.

First car was my dad's hand-me-down 1988 Ford Tempo L. Four banger, but with a stick shift. Horrible car, but I'd still want to do something cool to one...go figure

First car I paid with my own money. Paid 2000$ for it, which was about 1999$ too much. What a POS! Less reliable than my Alfa it was. Some of it might be due to me being a dumb kid.
