This was a nasty one.
We were there today but not where we could see this corner. They say it was a brake failure. I was very glad he made it out in one piece.

Pretty ugly wreck. But he made a good, and incredibly fast, decision to turn into the corner vs. going straight off. Straight might have had a much worse outcome.
The long spectacular stuff is usually much more survivable. The energy in that was dissipated over a long series of impacts.
It was spectacular, though. No doubt about that.

This!!! The crashes with the sudden stop are the ones that make me very uncomfortable.

Between the right hander being slightly banked and the runoff area sloping away ,it's much like a launch ramp unfortunately, especially at that speed.

I leaned that when we watched Allan Simonsen's crash at Le Mans, not spectacular but the car seemed to just stop.

This 100%, that was a gnarly off. Any updates on how he is doing?

He's OK. They interviewed him during the race. He said that he was automatically put in Indycar's version of concussion protocol because of the Gs he sustained during the wreck.
