Ah.  I hate those jobs when you wish you had a time machine so you could just go back and not start it.

Doing the front engine mount on the odyssey was one of those.  Took way more time than anticipated.  Did not match the tutorials/videos.  Finally got the old mount out and put the new one in.  When installing the new one (rockauto/chinese crap), the body of it rotates on the crimp indicating that it is basically garbage.  So I ended up putting the car back together with a *new* bad engine mount.  5 hours or so of work and the car was 0% better than when I started.  But at least I wasted $100!

1986. Doing valve lash adjustment on my datsun 510. Takes half an hour. But this time I could  not help but notice that there was a  crack in the front cam journal. Oh dear. Well, could be worse. Coulda fallen into the sump. OK, remove cam. Start undoing the 18 in-lb cam tower bolts. And one of them SNAPPED. On the way OUT. Three day ordeal attempting to remove the stump, only to end up replacing the Berkleying cylinder head.

I think that's about when I started going bald...

I bought a basket case Miata with a “built” V8.  Assembled the clutch and flywheel and attempted to insert it into the car to mate with the trans.  They do not go together.  Attempt to remove said engine and discover the tensile strength of the timing chain cover is insufficient to lift motor (head is a better chain attachment spot).  Get engine out, get transmission out, attempt to mate them, discover the pilot bearing is misaligned.  Start over.

Insert newly assembled motor AND transmission into car, discover the motor mounts don’t line up properly.  Headers fight being bolted up.  Get everything together to discover there is a bent valve and I have to pull the head back off.  Get running again, discover that diff is open and nearly worthless.  Buy replacement diff that LOOKS similar but is critically a different size which takes 12 hours to install.  There are more but you get the idea.

All to go SIGNIFICANTLY slower than my old CSP car.  It’s........frustrating.
