RA1 vs. R888 as a DD/auto-x tire on my E30.

The car doesn't get driven in the rain/snow etc, and I have another to put commuter miles on to save some wear on the E30 tires.

Anyone do this? Idea on mileage to expect? I know there are a ton of variables but ballpark assuming 1 maybe 2 autox's a month.

I've driven RA1s on the streets for quite a while and loved them. They don't last as long as regular tires but on performance cars that go thru tires in 12-2k miles I'd say go for it.

The R888s have a tread pattern that don't make them as much fun in the wet.

What size RA1s do you need? I have a gently used set of 245x17 fronts and 275 x17 rears sitting in my garage now.

225/50/15

I would be happy to get ~10k miles out of a sticky set of tires. The RA1s start with more tread as well, and the treadpattern looks more, ahem, "legal" if you know what I mean.

Any others that do this?

RA1 all the way if you can find them in your size. They last longer and are often faster.

Then the follow up is, where is the cheapest place to get RA1's?

LOL Cheap and RA1. Sorry I found that funny. If you find it let me know I need a set of 225-55-16's (or there about) and the cost is a tad more than my fun money account can handle at the moment.

What I saw on price from onlinetire.com was right around what a 225/50/16 RE11R costs.

Not too bad IMHO.
