Thought I would put this out here. While I'm sure one of the Mustang sites might be most folks first place to look, I don't know of another site/magazine that has users and subscribers with this level of eclectic automotive interests.
My search is for my mom's 1972 Mustang Mach I. It was green and she bought it new at Stenger's Ford in Dayton, Ohio (now the site of another WalMart). It was a 351 HO with a top-loader four speed. I have the VIN, but I'm not sure if I should list that. I went to the Mustang HO registry, listed it in the registry, but haven't heard back from them in over two years.
Long-story-short, if anyone can look around, ask around and/or check with their various car buddies, etc, I'd appreciate it. I know it's a long shot, but it's a shot.
Thanks!
Stan

How long ago did you lose track of it? I only know one person who owns a Mach I of that generation, and she's had it since high school(late-80's). It's not green either, but that could have been changed at some point.
Yes, when and where did you last see it? I know someone who owned a green '72 Mach 1 351 four speed with original paint.

Have you tried carfax? Running the VIN there might give you at least a start on the location if it is still registered.
I'd post the VIN, seems like the only way to locate it.
Lost track of the car in the mid-70s.
Haven't tried Carfax.
VIN: 2F05R197215
Thanks for any help!
Are you sure that is the VIN. I tried running it on the carfax site and it does not work. I used the free look up thing they have to get you to purchase a real carfax. Maybe the age of it makes it a problem for carfax?
So I went and looked it upHere. and that vin is a good vin so with it not showing up anywhere I suspect it is no longer a car that is in circulation. It was either scrapped or it is locked away in someone's barn or something.
I know that vin numbers have had a digit or three added. May be why its not showing up on carfax.
Just checked Ohio BMV's site. They've got no record of the VIN, so it must not have been registered in Ohio for quite a while, if it's not in their computer. Not sure how far back their records go.
Edit: I suspect many state DMVs may have something similar to Ohio where some basic info can be found if you have a VIN. It'd be a matter of finding them, and entering it, and hoping if the car still exists, that it has beeen registered in recent history. If a hit comes up, at least then you've got a state to narrow a search down into.
One of our tool makers at work, who has an ever rotating crop of old muscle cars he buys and flips, had an original green paint Mach 1 a year or two back. Not sure if it was a 72, but right around then.
I tried running it through he one I used on my Civic but it only goes back to 1980 and requires a 17 character VIN.
The age of the VIN was one of the problems I was having in my research too. A lot of sites kept coming back with something like "invalid VIN".
Furious, does he keep a record of his inventory?
My guess is, like dean said, it's probably no longer a car.
But I appreciate the help!
