I am hopefully going to look at a '69 F-100 with a 302 and 5-speed this weekend. The guy said the shifter is not lined up right in the gear box and so it is stuck in 1st gear which to me sounds weird. Does anyone have any suggestions when I go look at the truck as to figuring out if it is the transmission or just the shifter? They want $550 for it.
If it's really a 5-speed, it's most likely a T-5 swap, and they get "stuck" by either having a mangled shifter, or a bent shift fork. It's an internal rail/linkage trans and the shifter sits in a nylon tophat bushing. Sometimes the bushing wears enough to berk the shifter.
If it's stock it should have a 4-speed at the most though, so uh, there is that...
For $550, unless it is a POFS, bring a trailer, load it up and go. Figure it out later.

Yeah I know it shouldn't have a 5-speed. If it is actually a 5 speed, what am I looking at as far as difficulty in repairing the bent shift fork?
On a T-5 you are honestly cheaper just getting another from a junkyard. The shifter is super easy, though. Pop off the 4 bolts and see if the hat bushing is good or not. If it is, junk the trans.
Looks like a decent deal to me....
It MAYBE a M5OD2 from the later model 150's, instead of the T5.

The only web site you will ever need: Fordification
I have a new stock T-5 shifter you can have for the price of shipping if you need one.

Awesome.
I am hoping I can work out seeing it and buying it before it disappears because it is far enough away that I can't do it during the week.
In reply to 93EXCivic:
Depending on the hole in the floor, you may be able to remove the shifter from the trans from the top.

New category needed, like Sprockets. Needs a name though...
Haulers?
When I was looking for my truck, I found out that "Ranger" used to be a trim line in some F-150s. I didn't buy the truck for sale here, but I thought that was kind of neat.
I think that old trucks are plenty Grassroots and they can be very motorsports if there is a trailer and a car behind them. Do we really want another sub-forum?
