I run a LOT of Griffin stuff on the Escort. From first hand experience, i can 100% guarantee that they don't really apply to my situation, in that i need to keep these cars GRM $20xx Challenge legal.

I think everyone is taking this subject a bit far, kindof like the last time i asked about a tire size (now THAT was a E36 M3show).

Just wanted to know if the idea of "as much coverage as possible" still applied when not using a shroud, and that's it. I know these cars' space limitations and current budget limitations better than, well, pretty much anybody.

I do appreciate that i've learned that a pusher fan setup doesn't seem to be the end of the world, though!

In reply to Swank Force One:

I remember how close to the fan the turbo ends up on these, at least with a stock manifold. I honestly would get some king hell pusher on the front. Unless you've got some front mount IC that would get in the way, why not go looking for a large by huge fan to run that way? Just cover as much of the rad as possible and run whatever shroud comes with it.

The question then is, could a factory fan, like the fan off of a Taurus that is a known powerful cooling fan, allow for a flipped blade without a crazy amount of effort.

Yep, and i run a stock manifold.... but with a turbo 2-3x the size, so clearance is even worse.

I've got a front mount intercooler on there, but it's there either way. I've got room to sandwich a fan or two between the two.

I could probably tack a piece of sheet metal over the entire core support opening then cut out a hole for whatever monster fan i could find.

Oh, and oh thing about pusher vs puller; my VFR runs one of each. Puller on the left rad, pusher on the right. So only one of my knees gets baked.

If it was good enough for Honda...

Could you run a pusher on the side where the turbo clearance is an issue, and a puller on the other side?

if my OCD would allow it, yes.

But honestly, the fan that "doesn't" have clearance issues is still only a whopping 2-3" away from turbo.

That is the part I missed and yeah that would hinder your challenge ability very well.

Turbo blanket?

Has one. Honestly doesn't fit all that well. (CT26 is a problem child for that.)

I'll probably just try a pusher setup and remove the blanket because it's ugly.
