Cool, but a converted GT is no match for a real GT-R.

how is it any different?

if it looks the same, and has the same motor, and all the same trim, how is the R different from a converted GT?

So I should be able to pay $400.00 for an E30 M3 because they are no different than a modded POS 1986 318, right?

From the article, I believe it had a non-GT-R motor and that some of the trim didn't seem to be GT-R material. The gist of the article was that the owner was disappointed with the car, as he bought it believing it was a GT-R and later discovered it was more of a GT-R clone.

A clone would be good enough for me. If it were a genuine GT-R, I'd be afraid to enjoy it anyway.

I stared at the pictures of that car in the magazine for a long time. It's very cool.

not the same car. this has black rear fender flares. the one in the mag had body color.

also, I believe that sticker is a bay area Vintage Nissan Owner's club sticker. I've seen it before.

First of all, 10 G is not GT-R money...GT-Rs are alot more than that.

And Second of all, if the 318 was an EXACT clone of an E30 M3, I would certainly be satisfied in driving it around, but I would not pay original E30 M3 money for it, in the same way that a GT-R EXACT clone would satisfy me but I would not pay original GT-R money for it.

Bringing in a 25-year-old car is a doddle. It shouldn't be a challenge to bring in another should you miss this one.

Upon further review (where have I heard that before?) it appears there are significant differences in details between the e-bay car and the one in the magazine.

The front fender flares are the most obvious example.

We can play the Skyline version of Where's Waldo if you want to find more. There are too many little details that don't match.

The GT-R came with the Nissan S20, which was a very cool (and very low volume/rare) engine. 2-liter twincam inline six, crossflow head with hemispherical combustion chambers, and a three carbs in stock form. They were rated at 160hp stock and would spin to 7000rpm with ease. Race versions were tuned to over 200hp and sound unbelievable Seeing and hearing one in person was one of the highlights of my trip to Japan in 2001.

They make an L26 or L28 look a bit heavy, lazy, and not particularly high tech. The good news with the L series is that parts are actually available, and that owning, fixing, or tuning one doesn't automatically require selling one's body parts or first born children, unlike the S20.

I think it's the same car that's in the October issue of GRM. The differences are all things that could have easily be swapped out/painted/etc. before the car was put up for sale. It's not unheard of for an owner to take out some of the more expensive items and sell those separately from the car.

Even in the article, it was mentioned that the car came from Japan with 14" wheels and guess what it's being sold with - 14s. Seats, steering wheel, painted strut tower brace, painted flares, etc. are not hard to do...
