Hello guys,

I have a 98 Forester just under a 100k and I think my clutch is slipping I'm just not sure.

Basically I can drive fine just around 3000 to 3200 if I have to step on it I will rise about 200 - 500 rpms then it will grab and start going. Is this a sign of a bad clutch? Is it okay to drive it if I baby it?

By babying it I mean if I don't step on it hard and just cruise it doesn't slip at all.

If its a manual and with the clutch all the way out the rpm goes up before the speed does, thats definitely slipping.

You can baby it for a long time most likely, but if you arent using that time to save your pennies for the new clutch you'd be a fool, cuz its gonna need it eventually.

Yeah I'm only using that as a method to save for a new clutch. I was thinking of trying to do it myself I just have never worked on a subaru before. I'm used to working on my E30. It just a bummer because I just got a loan for this car and already have to fix this.

My wife and I did her 98 forester new years day 08. The clutch was a Exerdy KIT off e-bay. While we were in there.... Water pump, cam seals, both crank seals, Timming belt, T belt tentioner, all idler pullyes, Y pipe to cat donut gasket and rebuilt the flange, all hoses and a radiator.

It's not a hard job with the right tools but it's not a 1 hour fix. If you have a engine crane plan on 2 days.
