You can watch me follow one (an 850 Abarth Coupe) in ~this video~.
I think I got by him around the 6 m inute mark.
Abarth also made a 1300. That could be a very scary car.

If you're going to go 850 production-based Abarth, you have to go all the way, the OT 2000:

Nice video!
I've drove the Bogus Basin road some years ago, but it was in a rental Cavalier just before Thanksgiving. The car sucked but snow on the upper curves made it more fun than expected.
The views were spectacular, at least until a weather front starting dropping about 8" of that nasty white stuff.

I saw that one before. But once you get that large an engine back there I think that it might get a little too tail happy.
Of any of them, I would take a 1300. the engine is built more like a race engine, and its based on the engine the car was designed for. The 2000 engine is the one from the 124, and those cars are scary enough without adding a ton of extra weight to the back. lol Its too bad they are almost impossible to find now (not to mention expensive), they look like fun.
The Gov't, put out a recall on all 850's I don't remember when. But, it went back a decade. For problem rust. My mother had one. It was a fun car but spent way too much time at Tony's Shop.

The Abarth guys anticipated the weight distribution problems (at least a little bit) by re-locating the radiator to the front and mounting the spare tire really low, under the front bumper.
I suspect they were still as diabolical as early 911's with the trailing throttle oversteer, though!
I think the 1300 had a front radiator too. I was actually wrong about the engine, the 1300 is based on the single cam 124 engine, only the 1000 engine is based on the stock one.

If anyone was at VIR for the 2008 Gold Cup this car put on a good show.
