Recently? BMW 318ti, and... Well, actually that is it. I suppose you could throw a Mercedes C230 into the mix, but that wouldn't be a good idea. Going older, you have Toyota Starlets, Pinto's, Chevettes, etc.

If you want to be liberal with the definition of a hatchback, you have Corvettes, Camaro's, Mustangs... But that isn't what you were asking for.

Citation is FWD too.

Original Mazda GLC was RWD also--much like a Starlet in design. Datsun made some RWD B210 Hatchbacks as I recall too.

RWD ones are all getting so old that they're tough to find. I think the M Coupes are the only ones that are less than 30. That being said, I love the idea. I actually wish I had my old B210 back. It was no 510, but still handled pretty good just because it didn't weigh anything.

I've been looking here in New England for a Toyota Starlet or Chevy Chevette and they don't come cheap ! !

BIG surprise at the current prices!

IIRC there was a previous thread that argued hatch opening vs. hatchbacks. RX-7 is a hatch. Starlet is a hatchback. And I think the Starlet pretty much nails the RWD version of a Geo Metro. Something newer? The first and only car that came to mind is the Mcoupe.

Was the starlet as small and light as the metro? I've got a 2016 challenge idea and am thinking.of making a rwd front engined metro ///M

Even a starlet 5 door hatch would work looking at measurements

I had a 98 318ti with a 5spd and it was a fantastic car. Wish I had kept it!

A 300ZX and a Supra are also RWD hatchbacks.

Starlets are awesome but they are getting really hard to find cheap these days since they have such awesome swap potential...

I have one that someone could take off my hands for a grand. Admittedly, that is probably 700 more than any sane person would pay for it.

I know where two are sitting. The body's look good but it appears they have no engines. He also has two identical fx16's that do run under their own power in excellent condition.

There's documented ways to make a '00-05 focus hatch rwd with your choice of engine.

With all this 318ti mention, I hope their prices shoot through the roof!

I have one and think it is a great car.

Picture it; 1976, and you have to find a sorta sporty car and it needs a hatchback. Enter the AMC Hornet.
