You know, for zombies and E36 M3.

Actually, the 3SGTE RAV4 project is taking me longer than I anticipated. I don't like being pressured, so now when winter comes, I won't worry about it. Or zombies.

Needs a few little things: antenna, seat tear, servicing, I'm sure, etc., but it is already set up for towing with a good hitch and a brake controller. The little RN Truck is getting a bit old for big tow jobs. With this V8, I shouldn't have to drop to 2nd (or 1st) gear and put the heater on High for mountains.

I'm seeing a theme here:

Congrats. It's like a Rover but running.

Yeah, like a Rover, but moving under it's own power.

Actually, at our car show work party, our VP showed up in a Disco. I commented, "Look a Land Rover Disco moving under its own power!" He said "It ain't easy."

And another of my vehicles requires premium gas.

Yeah, pretty classy for about 3 challenge cars.

Nice score. I find myself looking at those 100-serieses as a potential replacement for my 4Runner more and more.

Sweet! Factory lockers? I love Land Crushers and looked pretty seriously at an fj80 (I know that's a 100) before buying my Cherokee, those things are just ridiculously ridiculously overbuilt.

I like it a lot. Challenge X 3 seems like a bargain.

How much flat black do you think it will take?

I think it has the lockers. I need to find the button. There are a lot of buttons on this thing. Found the center dif lock button. The owner's manual says there's a button to lock the rear dif. There's buttons to change the ride height, "sport" or "comfort" or inbetween suspension dampening, power or normal mode for transmission shifting and I think throttle, "start in 2nd gear", a lever for high/low range, etc.

It's a '98 with 211K on it. Drove it home from Tulsa, ~120 miles. It drives as tight as a Chevy with 30K miles on it. No funny noises/clunks, steering is tight, doesn't pull. The stereo is very nice. I would say between the 99 LS400's Lexus Premium sound and the 98 LS400's Nakamichi sound, which would put it somewhere between the best car stereo I ever heard and the best stereo I ever heard. The underside is very clean, no salt/rust damage, even though it came out of KY, OH, and KS.

I need to figger out which buttons to push to fold the 3rd row seats up. Hey, I may need to haul 8 people sometime. And their luggage. And the cars they arrived in.

In reply to Dr. Hess:

Switch should be just to the left of the steering wheel on the dash.

iirc they are 3 row suv's around the size of Bronco or Blazer iirc

Yeah, that's about right. It is a rebadged/up-optioned Landcruiser. The LX470 has the 2UZFE V8, not too much HP but gobs of torque in this year. Later years got a HP increase. There was a TRD supercharger available for it. The LX450 of the prior year has the straight 6.

I'll look for that rear dif lock switch. I had enough trouble figuring out the AC and radio on the trip home. All the buttons are different than the LS400's or Camry of the same era. There are even 2 buttons to set how high you want the antenna to go up. Ordered a replacement antenna on ebay (GRM ADVERTISER) last night. Fifteen bucks shipped.

Talk about depreciation, but unlike a Benz it still works.

Bronco?

Anyway, they're bigger than a Trailblazer or pre-CUV Explorer but smaller than a Tahoe or Expedition. 3 rows, but the third row is pretty tight.

No rear dif lock button. Must have been an option.

Yeah, that's where I looked. No gots. Just a blanking plate.

The seat heaters have a high and low setting.

Does that mean that it doesn't have a locking diff or that it gets activated in another way? More than one Toyota product from that time is a switch away from being able to selectively lock the rear differential.

Not sure. Could also have a limited slip.

FWIW, Wikipedia is asserting that the optional front and rear locking differentials went away with the J100 generation.

I believe the lx470s have a rear limited slip. The land cruiser had the rear locker in 98 & 99. From 00 both used the brakes to control wheel spin not sure if they used throttle as well. These are also on my radar.
