I prefer to wear TIG gloves, which are thinner and uninsulated. The protection isn't as good, but the added dexterity makes using tools so much easier. Tillmans are nice for like $12-15.

I've never owned any other PPE specifically for welding. Just wear long sleeves, pants, and closed toed shoes and don't be a dumbass.

Same here on using TIG gloves. They are just so much easier to maneuver around in.

I also just stick with long sleeves, pants, and closed shoes. MIG has some spatter, but I haven't caught myself on fire in a good while. lol

Ha, I actually caught myself on fire yesterday. That was grinder related, though.

Oh yeah, the front pocket on one of my garage hoodies is gone due to grinding.

A more beneficial note to this thread, I picked up this welding helmet from Eastwood a couple months ago on a sale, and it works great!

I’d say a $5k course must be to teach young folks to pipeline.

All you really need is an afternoon and a pile of scrap metal to get a fairly good feel for that thing.

Regarding catching on fire, please don't have a cigarette lighter or matches in your pocket while welding.
