That really shouldn't be a big deal, but it is a 25+ year old car with an engine that I built myself and has been sitting in the garage all winter. The idea that it just fires right up and drives away every time is funny to me. There really is something to be said about Toyota quality. (And this board because Lord knows I couldn't have rebuilt an engine by myself!)
That would be a pretty big deal to me. Sounds like fun! (And very satisfying.)
Yeah, I know what you mean. I drove the '84 Celica today with the engine I built- just started for the first time Friday. Still makes me grin when it actually runs.
My old MR2 drove by the shop that I was getting an oil change at today... Car on the hoist I couldn't chase him down... Lucky for me.
There is something primally satisfying about driving an engine you built. I loved that feeling.

ABSOLTIVELY I couldn't agree more
I have built many motors. When they start it is a little like becoming a new parent.

While I've never 'built' an engine from scratch, soldering, programing, and running a MegaSquirt on a car gives you the same feeling, you're scared and awed at the same time...

I am jealous and miss my MR2.
Take note that we did not worry about your safety and overall well being unlike the guy who drove his Maserati Biturbo to work.

Ooh. I bet it does! I've just looked at it a little bit. My hat is off to you. I think building an engine might be easier.
It's an MR2, of course it's going to run!
I once ran an entire event with my ITA MR2 with the distributor loose. We thrashed the night before to the get the car finished, and got to the event about an hour before the first session. I noticed it felt down on power, but it ran fairly well. No missing, no sputtering, no knocking, just a bit down on power on corner exit.
it wasn't until I got home and started going through it that I found the distributor loose. Setting the timing and tightening up brought the power back!
I really, really miss my MR2's.

My co-driver once stuck our ITA Mr2 in second instead of 4th at Roebling during a race. It zinged up to who knows what but actually continued to run as if nothing happened for 5 more laps. The race ended for us on the 6th lap after the mis-shift when it spit the rod out the bottom of the block, but it was amazing that a motor with 160k miles on it would hold together for five laps after being over reved like that.
I too miss my MR2.
