So I was chatting with a friend last night...

And mentioned to him that I was looking at buying a mint, 100% rust free Swift GTi that was bone stock. I was lamenting the fact that I would probably end up wanting to race it and it pained me to do that to such a clean car.

He then pointed out the fact that he had a road race GTi sitting in his shop (he's pretty well off, I believe his count of race cars is at least 5, one srt4, one Mitsu evo 2 rally car, a couple of hondas, Cobalt SS/SC and various other screwing around cars). Being a relatively bigger fellow, he simply can't fit in the GTi well enough to race it anymore.

$2250, definitely chump car eligible. Has a quaife lsd, might not be chump car eligible

So, the Volvo is getting put up for sale tonight, along with all of my spare Subaru rims and spare rally rubber. He's also the kind of dude that would let me get it out of his shop since he's not using it, and pay him by the time it gets to its first race.

So yeaaaaaa... super excited to look at it tomorrow night. Just thought I'd share, and I'll be posting pictures. You guys down south don't have to worry about me coming down and cleaning up the chumpcar series... yet...

Some really cool history behind the car. In Canada, Suzuki ended up building a dozen Swifts to compete in the Firehawk series, a series ran in Canada in the early 90's (there was also the Firehawk TransAm/IROC Camaro class that was insanely popular). This car is an original Firehawk car, complete with bolt in roll cage.

Car looks promising, it is a race car through and through; stripped of EVERYTHING, trimmed of any excess weight, has a cool (and decent fitting) fibreglass rear hatch. I bet race weight is 1400pound wet without driver. Motor runs fine, tranny is fine, comes with a set of old skool 14" Ronal rims (disgustingly 80's, amazing) and a set of 13x6" rims. All it needs is a driver side cv, which we have in our spare parts shed.

In order to fund this car, Jeff and I decided we would sell all of our misc. treasures that we realistically did not or were not ever going to use. This included our 1982 242 GLT Volvo which has sat for a year, the turbo rims for said Volvo, some insane jdyam competition only 16x7 enkies that weigh 12 pounds, 12 used rally tires, 8 15" legacy turbo rims, and one or two other things I am forgetting.

As of this evening, we've sold 5 rally tires ($100), the Volvo rims ($250), some 70% tread left Kumho gravel tires ($200), and the Enkie's ($200). $750 out of $2250 isn't bad for two nights work. Jeff is also looking at selling off a 1981 Chev pickup he has... so basically, we need to sell the Volvo for $1k and both sets of legacy rims.

And the owner is going to let us take it off his hands so it is out of his hair, we just have to pay him before it hits the track.

Rumor has it ChumpCar might be coming back to Edmonton sometime this fall before the snow flies... so I guess our timeline is to reprep this car before the end of September while keeping the rallycar schedule in one piece.
