I flew off track so fast I got stuck in a huge snowbank. Quite a few people did and we all had fun in the snow. The H1 didn't get stuck That's me in the Black Forester.
Neat!
I have pretty much the perfect car to do it in (a low-end NASA race car), but the closest events are too far of a pull for me (and this time of year is super-busy at work anyway).
I live on a lake which is frozen right now. We go out on the ice all the time to chat with the ice fishermen.....a truly crazy bunch of people (in a good way).
Where'd you go?
Turk Lake which is about 10 minutes north of Greenville, Michigan.
There is another 2 day event scheduled for next weekend.
FYI - it was a timed event just like an autocross.
That looks like so much fun!
Super skinny snow tires for the win!
Oh, and I've also decided that a Forester best fits my current lifestyle...now if only I find someone to trade me one for my 240...
I used to run a SAAB 96, fun stuff. Try to have a designated racer, blasting your DD into someone or up an ice bank just bites.
Dan
I wish we could have ice racing where I live. Our heaviest freezes don't even freeze the center of the lake. I think the thickest I've seen at the very egde of a shallow pond was maybe an inch.
It looks like so much fun. I've seen pictures (probably in GRM or CM) of a rusted Volvo 544 hanging the tail out. What a blast that must be!
Here'a a link to our local club. Click on gallery at the center. You think we're nuts?

AMEC (icerace.com) just had a terrific two day event at Tupper Lake NY. Had the full cooperation of the village, used their lake side parking lot for the pits. They even had heated rest rooms and there was a McDonalds right across the road. Police patrolled the pit area Sat. night since a lot of people left there race cars there. We are contemplating an entry class for next year.
They had a bit on CNN this morning about folks in Colorado that were RACING ON ICE! OMG! It looked a lot like the AMEC stuff, but wasn't.

They mentioned top speeds of 20-40 mph, YIKES!
From what I remember, real ice racers go a little faster than that. I'd be willing to cut Robin Meade a little slack, though....

D00d, that tire is METAL!!!
Anyone here know if there is any ice racing in New England (Maine, Vermont, NH)? There certainly isn't any in Mass.
There is a club in Maine. I'll see if I can find their web site. We, AMEC, get guys from Mass, VT and NH that come and race with us.
Found it. Actually ther are two in Maine. New Meadows Ice Racing Assoc. NMIRA West Cove Ice Racing Assoc.

Item #1 under 'Upcoming Events'. Good group to run with, I'm told.
