I disagree here - I think the American TG hosts would be more fun doing this. Except maybe Hammond and possibly May, but Clarkson - eh... no. While I still like the UK version, I like the US version more every season. The most recent season had some really funny stuff in it.

Oddly enough, registration would be easy if starting in PA, since you don't really deal with PennDOT directly but with one of the myriad of private tag dealers all over the state. You show up with the title and proof of insurance (a valid insurance card for a car you currently own), pay the taxes & fees, they hand you a plate and away you go. Hell, if you set it up to use a particular tag shop ahead of time, they might even be willing to stay open late if needed, although most are open until 7pm in my experience.

Regardless, the reason the whole thing works on Top Gear is because... it's TV... and the hosts aren't the ones buying and prepping the cars (at least the UK version, as alluded to during explanations over the Argentina fiasco). With the lower budgets and thus staffing, it's possible the US hosts are more directly involved - although still unlikely.

The wife and I are hoping I can pick a summer vacation to try this although we most likely will be using my Malibu rather that fly and buy. We've both been following on Facebook and it looks better planed than most of our actual vacations.

The US version is growing on me. I may be a bit biased from seeing Adam at clubs for years.

The idea sounds like fun, but yes, plates and insurance are the sticking point.

Seems like insurance would be the easy part, just a phone call and a fax or printed e-mail. Maybe buy from a local agent where the car is?

Plates. What are the emission and inspection laws in Florida and Georgia? Can you get around them with some sort of 10 day temporary tag? in GA you don't need emissions check on 25 years and older right?

Start shopping on Monday, knowing you have till 5 on Wednesday before the DMV closes. Group meets Thursday to caravan to the challenge.

Boss authorized me to release a few details about the W2W rally tonite. Full details and event registration will open Dec 1st. This is the rally which will include the T.R.A.B.I. class which is essentially what is being theorized here.

Gotta love people who use acronyms or initials that are not described anywhere in the site. I thought they taught that one is first day or writing school?

OK, I'll bite....So what the berkeley is a T.R.A.B.I?

Does anyone remember Junkyard Wars? It was pretty much the OPs idea at times when they did car related stuff. It always amused me. I remember the one where the guy welded up a differential for some off road thing, but they weren't allowed any more gear oil, so he dumped it into a plastic bag, and then sealed the bag and assembled the rear end with the bag in there. His reasoning was that the plastic bits would get chewed up and not matter and the fluid would hang out until the bolts were all tight and they could turn the axles. brilliant!

Not only do I remember the show, I remember that exact episode. Loved the ingenuity on that build.

The link on the first page takes you to the site with the definition. :) It's a test to see if you are bothering to read the full info on the event or not ;)

Searched for but never found. One of us failed a test. Since I don't write web-pages that are supposed to be helpful, I doubt it was me! Then again. I have been known to look for my glasses when they are on my head.

Not being a dick, consider it customer feedback. It is a good thing.

Sorry it was the post under the one that was linked. http://asphaultadventures.com/wordpress/?p=984

Which is what I meant about testing to see if people are reading the full info or not. I don't much care for the blog format because of this, people won't bother to "read back" to find things but I'm not going to recap every previous post in the current one either. As we hadn't released any real details up until yesterday (and still no firm info) everything is still blog format. When it comes time to pony up and register there will be a full site for W2W (West 2 West rally) which will have all the details spelled out again as well as the full rule set which is still under revision.

Wasn't considering your comments dickish, they proved my point about the blog format. Sadly until a lot more people start signing up for these things I can't quit my day job so I have to use the blog to get info out quickly until I have time to sit down and write full pages.
