So Friday night I make the one hour drive from home to Arrowhead Speedway, like I do most Friday nights from April to October, to pit crew for my friend on his USRA Modified. He goes out for Hot Laps, that's practice for the non-circle trackers here. He comes in and says we need to change the gears. I've got the car on stands, have the old gear out and the new gears in and putting the cover on and he come over and says, "Do you want to race a Tuner Car tonight?" I didn't ask what car it was or who owned it, I simply said, "Yes, Yes I do. " USRA Tuner Car is a 4 cylinder front wheel drive class. A few minutes later the track owner drives up in a late third gen, Acura Integra. Gets out and says, 30 psi in both right side tires, and second gear and walks off. I get in this thing and the seating position is decent but the steering wheel is too far away. My arms are almost straight. No time, or way to fix it before the heat race. I start 8th and finish 5th. Not bad for the first time out. Feature time comes and we take the seat cover out of the modified and put in it and made about a half inch difference. Started 7th and made my way up to 5th when a caution came out. They restart two wide and on the restart the car in front of me got loose and a car got by both of us. Then I raced door to door with another car for several laps never touched each other and they beat me to the line by about half a car length. So I started 7th and finished 7th. After the race the girl who was driving the other car came over and we talked for a few minutes. Turns out she is second in National points in the Tuners. So I feel pretty good about the run I had.
