It seems like there's a lot of emailing lately. I will simply go turn it off here shortly but thought I'd ask if anyone else thought 5-6 per 8 hr day was excessive?

Yep, it's a lot.
I need to wade in and see if there's a "fewer emails" option. I don't want to unsubscribe from GRM/CM emails, but getting every type of email (editorial/store/whatever) every day is too much.
GRM isn't the only group who I do want to hear from but who currently send too many emails, which is part of the problem, compounded by actual spam.
It's a lot here, but I've noticed the last few months a major uptick from everywhere I get emails from.
What's really been getting to me is that nobodies unsubscribe link seems to work anymore, and tagging senders as spam only lasts as long as they're using the same temporary email address. (General email complaint, not grm specific)
I'm getting them on two email accounts so I've got twice as many to delete. Because I get so many I don't even look at the topics anymore, I just scroll down checking each box and sending all of them to trash.
You must have read my mind. Just this morning, I was thinking about bringing up this exact topic.
GRM staff, if you're listening, you are sending out TOO many emails. I enjoy getting a notification from you guys, say once a week, but several per day, or even several per week is counterproductive. It'll lead to them being sent directly to the spam or deleted folder.
If you subscribe to each publication's daily newsletter, you'll get a minimum of two emails per day, every day. You should also get a promotional email about once per week per magazine.
You can change to a weekly newsletter with the "update preferences" link in the footer of the email, or by emailing me directly ( Tom@ this website) with your address and asking for it to be changed.
Sorry if you're getting too many emails--we're always happy to help subscribe/unsubscribe to them.
I should probably also note--I'm shocked at how many emails our audience seems to want, too.
The daily newsletters have about 20 times the number of subscribers as the weekly newsletters, and we beat industry average open and click rates by far. It's great to see so many people so interested in hearing from us; maybe this means we should publish magazines more often, too!
In reply to Tom Suddard :
I felt silly for posting above without having waded into trying to change my preferences... I was groggy and on my phone. Perhaps I'll try the weekly. Am I crazy in thinking the rate of emails for an existing subscription has ramped up over the latter months?
Anyhow, the self-serve option appears to be busted at the moment (multiple cycles of "Something went wrong. Please click on the button below to receive a new link.")
I'll consult my guts and try to decide whether I'll have FOMO if I unsubscribe. Thanks for the offer to help with subscription changes in the interim.
As an aside, and I have no idea who the newsletter subscribers are relative to magazine subscribers and forum people... I figure a fair few are like me where if the question is "GRM?" the answer is "sign me up." But I didn't expect this volume, and again, I feel like it's ramped up since I first subscribed. If I actually got into my preferences I'd probably confirm being subscribed to both daily and weekly emails and store updates for both mags.
No problem, and sorry you're getting a glitch--I'll have the devs check to make sure it's not a broader issue.
We've been sending emails at a steady rate for a while now--five years or so if my math is correct.
However, we've seen a steady increase in open rates over the past 6-12 months as we optimize our sending, design, frequency, content, etc. It's possible that you've been getting the emails all along, but are just now noticing them. Or possible your email service is realizing how many other people are opening and clicking on our emails, and decided they merited placement in your inbox instead of your junk folder.
You'll need to log in to post.
