The Sedan has about 1" more headroom than the coupe, 37.5" vs 36.5" per Honda. They're both below the 38" that I'd need to not hit my head with a helmet on.

I'm looking in this class, and really would rather have the modest good looks of the GTI or Golf R..... Honda's have just been getting uglier and uglier as time goes on.
This new model Si was not out when I bought my GTI, but, I am very happy with my GTI and have no regrets or "what if" kind of thoughts about my other options.

Correction: they now make a green GTI, and I would have loved to have a green one.
My wife really likes her GTI, too, and it is more “mature” looking, but has made a few unplanned trips to the dealer. I’m guessing that’s one area Honda is likely to win on.

While the GTI checks all the boxes for me, we have owned VWs before and never had good experience with them or their dealer/customer service around here. Maybe things have changed, but to get a VW it would have to be head-and-shoulders above all the rest of the competition. And frankly for the price of a nicely-optioned GTI I could just get another WRX....
All the GTI reviews say the interior and driving feel are head and shoulders above the rest.... most comparos are saying it feels more Audi that VW. FoST is fairing the worst on those fronts...... but not bad. We just bought a mid level standard Focus for the wife and I felt the interior was plenty fine. But again, I'm acclimated to driving utter garbage.

I agree the Accord looks great, but I have no need for a larger car than my WRX, and in fact prefer smaller and more fuel-efficient, but still fun to drive. We already have a CX-9 and a Sequoia, so family/kids/cargo capacity is not really something I care about at all. BRZ/FRS would be on my list if they didn't apparently suck in the MPG category. I'm not too concerned with the exterior looks of the car (I drive arguably the ugliest year of the WRX), and I have no reason to get the Accord over the Civic other than exterior looks.
And yes, I know the real answer is "motorcycle," but I'm not commuting in this area on a bike. Already know too many people hurt/killed by the terrible drivers around here....
The Elantra Sport is pretty competitive in price, performance, quality and features. Around me they are going for right under 20k for a 6 speed manual equipped model. I am looking at a car to replace my Fiesta ST when the time comes and im on the fence as to whether it will be an Elantra Sport, the new Veloster N or if they ever bring it to the US an Elantra N(I30N overseas).
Do not get the auto transmission though. I drove one and it just killed the fun of the car. The 6 speed i drove was fantastic and the exhaust note from the factory is absolutely perfect.

The only bad thing is the lack of an LSD. But the aftermarket will sort that out. If you want to risk losing your warranty.
Other than that. Hyundai is really stepping their game up.

A Mk7 GTI is a great daily driver/performance car combo, especially if you have a long commute, but I think it comes down to being willing to accept more quirks (nothing has stranded my wife, just been annoyances). I think that fact that the dealer she got it from is pretty decent helps, if they weren't it'd be a different story.
