Look... I am not a weirdo. I am 6' 2" and (usually, about) 245 LBS. I know that I do not fit into a 914, but I cannot get over the car. I do not fit in a Miata, either, BTW. I just love the 914's and am good with swaps. So, what mods can be done to allow me to fit in this car without a metric ass-ton of metal working to make the foot wells larger? Anything?
The fiberglass seats are pretty thin on padding already and the seat rails are up against the firewall. I don't think there's much you can do.
I like the width of the 914 over other sports cars, you're not banging shoulders with your date.

I'm pretty much exactly your height and weight. Last time I was in a 914, I was bigger around. I fit fine with room to spare. You didn't say that you'd tried one on - they're pretty roomy. If you haven't, try one, you might be surprised. If you have, where are you having trouble?
maybe consider a Boxster?
I'm 6'4" and I can drive Boxster/Cayman comfortably.
I'm 6'3" tall and 250lbs and I wasn't uncomfortable in a 914. Try one on they are a blast to drive.

thats what i was going to ask, have you tried to fit in a 914? I am 6'4" and most my height is in my torso which doesnt help, but i was still able to daily drive an aw11 mr2 for 4+ years. I find that older small cars fit better then newer small cars. My head is against the soft top in a NA miata, and dont get me started on the C7 corvettes...

Try it, it is all in your personal shape.
I'm 6'2" and fit in a Miata, comfortably with armrest removal and foamectomy.
I can fit in an older Boxster, but can't fit in a new Boxster/Cayman. My legs are longer so my right leg can't fit between the steering wheel and the center console.
I've never sat in any production car with enough leg room for heel/toe. My right leg has to lean to the right with my right heel under the brake pedal and the ball of my right foot on the gas.
At 6' 245 pounds, I fit fine in a 914. They also made aftermarket sport seats for these cars that may or may not be comfortable. Other than the shifting and the jake early D-jet fuel injection, I thought it was a lovely car. With the engine in the back, it was cool and quiet on the highway. Five speed and 4 wheel discs were nice touches too.
I've had an '87 MR2 and a '74 914. The 914 had more room for me, but like has been said, no options for moving the seat back anymore and the foamectomy was done at the factory.
But try to find one to sit in and drive and go from there.

I have been in one. It was at the Mitty last year. An older gentleman had one that had a EJ Subaru swap in it. I have long legs. I have owned Miatas, but my knee bangs into my door armrest and my left hand; I sold both Miatas for the same reason. A person would think I'd learn after the first one.
The thing is that I love these cars. Billy Bottlecaps on here is a friend of mine and has owned/parted probably 80-90 of them by now. They are getting harder to find in decent shape and I came across one the other day. I couldn't sit in it right away because there were so many boxes/parts in the floorboards.
I think I am going to take another look this weekend and try it on for size.

RIGHTTTTTT. Those of us in the know, know better. And I KNEW you were thinking about that suby swapped one from the Mitty as soon as I saw this. That was a beautiful car.
Start here: Linky-doo
and add pieces til you fit comfortably.
He he he, sorry, just thinking about you in a 914
The 914 is awesome get one!
I am 6'3" and 200#. I fit fine in my 914. Plenty of leg room and head room.
Wish I had not sold it now. Currently shopping for another one.
Nothing to add to this but there was a thread a while back that had a slant nose race car one that we photoshoped LED headlights on to that looked fantastic.

Some look at sports car choices and ask,"Why a 914 for me?" Others look at the same choice and ask "Why not?".
Dang, that Michigan CL ad looks like a pretty solid deal.

If you were a weirdo we would more likely be discussing Saabs here. I think the Porsche content makes you more of an enthusiast.
I've wanted a 914 for a long time as well...
I've wanted a 914 for years, but it's hard to find one that isn't a rust-bucket. The few I've seen that were rust-free cost more than I could justify for a "toy" car.
Im 6'4" 200 lbs. and I fit in mine fine. I'd drive one first. I never really liked the way they look but I thought owning one would change my mind. It didn't and I sold it.
when I owned my 914 I was 5'11 (still am) and 135 pounds (I am 185 now) I literally swam in the car. There was no way for me to brace myself adequately to do any sort of spirted driving.
Between that and the doubled insurance over my beloved Fiats.. I went scurrying back to a 124
