So some of you may have seen I put my Formula 500 up for sale.
The reasons were as follows:
1. Having two race cars is getting to be a bit much for me.
2. My SCCA region is now doing 4 time trials a year. I'm doing 2 PCA events and 2 vintage races so 8 days is a pretty full schedule.
3. The F500 was used mostly for autocross and the occasional vintage race so it no longer makes sense when I may only use it twice a year.
4. My wife suggested I get a street car that can occasioanly track day or auotcross and it seems like a good fit for what I do now.
5. The Datsun that I've owned for 39 years is not likely to be ever sold.
In the course of talking about this with my wife of 33 years she mentioned she reeeeeeally didn't like the idea of me in open wheel cars. My D-sports racer once caught on fire with me in it. To her credit she never said anything about my single seaters (the F500 is my 3rd one).
Some days you have to give a nod to your wife; this is a crazy hobby and she continues to support it depsite sometimes having reservations.
I think that's a perfectly reasonable idea.
Now to the important question, what kind of fun street car are you thinking about?

In reply to Tom1200 :
Twice in my racing career I managed to roll the car in a comprehensive way. Both times my wife was working in timing and scoring, with a full view of the accidents. She never said a word to me about quitting, but I know she wanted me to. She understood how much I wanted to race and she supported me, despite her trepidation.
Applewife has never once asked me to give up motorcycles. That alone is reason enough.
My wife has described herself as my number one enabler. She's not wrong.

I have 3 motorcycles in the garage. My wife was also my pit crew when I road raced motorcycles. She's good with my dirt bike riding and when I get ansty suggested I go riding.

She is fine with the racing but really prefers I stay in a tin top.
My wife doesn't get cars much at all, despite my FIL being a gear-head, but she appreciates that a hooptie project keeps me busy on the properly versus out on a kayak in the ocean fishing for sharks or other such nonsense.

The vast majority of us here probably fall under the category of "Wife Lotto Winners"

Part of the reason for posting this up goes back 33+ years.
I went with a friend to help out at SCCA drivers school (I was still racing motorcycles). One of his friends was going on about how I better build the race car now (I was engaged) because as soon as we get married she's going to start complaining about all the time and money. The guy was divorced not long after this; I'm sure part of the issue was he spent every spare penny and waking moment on his car racing. The other part was likely that his wife seemed to dislike racing/racers.......in her defense the group of friends were in my opinion overly serious for the level they were running.
When my wife suggested I get a dual duty track day car I was shocked by it and said "we'll have 8 cars".
Her reply was "I knew this is what you did when we were dating"
Not everyone of us wins the wife lotto.
