First day itinerary is Salt Lake City, Utah to either Denver, Colorado or Fort Collins, Colorado.
Google maps is suggesting I-80 to both. I think I can do better. A friend suggested I-70, but still, I'm purposely planning a shorter distance day through Colorado so I can enjoy some of the squiggly bits.
Initial idea was US 40, which may be the best bet, but then I started looking at some of the other roads...
So, now I'm thinking 190 out of Salt Lake City, then take 248 to Kamas.
There, I'll pick up 35 all the way to US 40 in Duchesne (via 87).
Then I'll be on US 40 / 191 for quite a ways, but will hop onto 14 after crossing Routt National Forest, which will take me the rest of the way to Fort Collins.
Where there is Fat Tire. And the place where Fat Tire is made. This will likely be a really really long day, but I could bail out pretty easily at a few places (well... one place... just stay on US 40 and sleep in Denver). Google Maps says 508 miles, 9 hours 52 minutes. Just taking US 40 the whole way is 496 miles, 8 hours 47 minutes. Probably the better bet.
Days 2 and 3 will just be crunching miles, so I-70 probably no matter what. Evening of Day 2 will be in Kansas City, so, I need some suggestions for BBQ... surely somebody here knows the good places.
Day 3 would merely be I-70 to I-55 to Blytheville for the ProSolo and Nat'l Tour.
After the racin' I'll just drive home by the most expedient route.
Anything I just can't miss? Biting off more than I can chew?
