Every once in a while we get to drive a car of our dreams. Some times it leaves us wondering how much better it could be if they just fixed a few details. Having driven a 914-V8, there are a number of those issues. Yes the mechanical water pump is a fail. An electric water pump is a no brainer, updated fix. Venting the front hood to bleed the hot air stuck in the front trunk, is a necessary accommodation. But a side shifter Porsche gear box, is an epic fail.
Yes, the V-8 in place of the flat four is not going spin up anything like a flat six. But having a PDK gearbox to keep that American lump on song, would be a win! That and having both hands on the steering wheel would also be conducive to speeds that this combination could produce.
